Video: Senior Adult Choir Hip Hop

by Tony Kummer on April 9, 2009

Update: We’ve confirmed this video was from the FBC of Forth Smith Arkansas (SBC). See details in the comments.

Just ran across this video. (HT Cawleyblog) From the description it sounds like an object lesson video for a youth retreat. They had the church choir sing popular hip hip music. Too bad it only says FBC but doesn’t give the town. Anyone recognize your church members?

If you’re in a hurry, go to 4:20 for the best part.

Several versions of this video are circulating on Youtube, this one looks like the original. You could also call it rapping choir video or church choir raps. Either way, it was funny. I just hope that choir guy didn’t get fired.

Tony,
If I am not mistaken, this is from First Baptist Church in Fort Smith, AR. My brother and sister-in-law actually attend this church.

Tony,
I confirmed it was FBC Fort Smith. They have an explantion on their YouTube page, user FSM803, when they originally posted it. I am copying that into this comment.

This was the opening video for our Student Fall Retreat called “You’ve Got Talent.” Everyone is asking what inspired this. Here is goes… 1) We needed a great opening video that caught everyone off guard, and set the the tone for the weekend. 2) With this idea in mind, we thought we could use this video as a great object lesson about media choices (kinda creepy hearing your grandparents sing some of this), and 3) this has been a GREAT transgenerational culture experiment. It has totally bridged a gap with our Senior adults and our students. Hope you enjoy!

For anyone who doubted before, this is PROOF of the total depravity of man.

Joe,
I first ran across this video when I was working on a paper about the effects of postmodernism on the church. If I could have embedded a video in a research paper, I would have done it.

No doubt about that dude. You should’ve been allowed to turn in that paper on CD-ROM. I mean, “Dontcha wish yo’ girlfirend was hot like me?” If these people have grandkids they are going to need some SERIOUS theapy.

Yo.

That should be “therapy” not “theapy”. Although I suspect everyone knew what I meant.

Don’t front like you don’t know. While you’re at it, don’t back and don’t side either.

Joe,
Essentially they put this video together for some of their own grandkids. This was made for use at a youth retreat at that same church. I think that was part of the youth minister’s plan for shock value. I still can’t believe he got those “senior saints” to sing some of those songs. They obviously have no idea what some of that slang really means.

My favorite part was the credits at the end… booking for weddings and bar mitzvahs!! LOL… it was almost as scary as when my mother-in-law said she enjoys watching “Pimp My Ride” with her grandson ;-)
