We as Baptists are always one generation from extinction. We have had seasons of decline and renewal in the past, and we will have them in the future. In some areas the church dies out, completely, then after a skip of some generations it comes back. all we can do in such circumstances is pray and preach the word. I have often wondered about how the church survived in the British Isles after the collapse of the Roman Empire. Remember the faith came early to the celts there, perhaps in the first century to Wales. Interestingly enough, one of the last, if not the last, commanders of the Roman Army for Britannia (during the time of rule from Constantinople), was the son of the Novatian Bishop of Constantinople and he became the Novatian Bishop when he returned to that city (see Socrates & Sozomen's History of Christianity written in the 5-6th centuries. Then we have the interesting phenomenon of the Celtic Churches of the 7th-9 century not really being aligned with Rome; they celebrated Easter in agreement with the Eastern Church Rites - not Rome. Also their monks were married. Later we have the Waldensians and Lollards in England....No matter, when the pilgrim type church that has existed for 2000 yrs. seems to die out, it always rebounds again in some form or another. AntiChrist has been trying to stamp out the faith since the days of John (I Jn.2). Satan plays hob, when he tries to stamp out the Faith. It always backfires in his face. We trust that God will see to it that the same happens again as He sees fit. Have you all considered the possibility of a Third Great Awakening taking the whole earth in one generation? Mr. Spurgeon prayed for such (See Evening Devotions for Aug. 6 & December 24), and he also required that Sovereign Grace believers had to be up and doing or they could not legitimately pray such a prayer. Are we pleading the promises for such a visitation that Edwards recorded in his Humble Attempt which same was done by Carey, et. al., that led to the Great Century of Missions and surely to the Second Great Awakening?

While I agree with you, I'm not quite sure what that has to do with this post?

You forgot to mention the iflated membership statistics. We can all admit that most of the people on the rolls today, no one has seen or heard from for many years. The convention is scared to cleanse the rolls and see real numbers. Let's be honest.
