Sounds like a take off on C.S. Lewis' Screwtape Letters. In fact, I could almost see the author going through them to develop his fiendish satire. While the imaginary is never far from the reality, it is good to see what can really lie at the heart of situations. By the way, did you ever consider how the Pharisees believed the Bible was the Word of God, that there is a resurrection of the body, that the Messiah was coming (they just had a few ideas of what His coming would be like wrong), that they were very much committed to living godly lives as they understood it. At the same time they were whited sepulchres full of all manner of filth ad evil. One of the quickest and to the point messages I ever received was on Jonah 8:13, "The hypocrites hope shall perish." The title was, "Hooray." The theme was hooray. The points were. It was a hypocrite who uttered those words, his hope perished, and that was the best thing that could have happen to him as he got a better hope. I think that this "authentic" memo is truly rather scary. There is nothing like the mirror to reveal the truth of who we are as individuals, churches, and denomination. Anyone with any sense of godliness about his or herself cannot read this and not see the problems we have in the SBC today. What I hope is that this mirror will motivate us to reconciling our differences instead of just talking about them. Olon Hydes last blog post..Tell me again why we wanted stem-cell research...
