Meet Mark Lamprecht

by Matt Svoboda on May 9, 2009

Next up, Mark Lamprecht.  I have enjoyed interacting with Mark over the last few weeks and I am excited about working with him here at SBC Voices!

1)  How Long Have You Been in the SBC?  What Is Your Current Role in the SBC?

I’ve been in the SBC for about six years.  During the first two I spent half of that time as a “minister to students”.  I left that church and attended another SBC church off and on which ended up being a year.  I finally returned to the SBC three years ago to stay.  I was always around the SBC though

My role is co-chairing our men’s ministry, leading a small-group and substitute teaching Sunday School.  I am also meeting with my pastor twice a month in an effort to discern my pursuit of full-time ministry.

2)  What do you most love about the SBC?

The combined efforts of doing missions work.  Isn’t this why the SBC exists?

3)  What one area of the SBC would you like to become stronger/healthier?

I would like the SBC to focus more on the local church with the Convention sitting more in the background.  For every Johnny Hunt that speaks at the annual convention, and various other events, I would also like the Bob Smiths who pastor small/unknown churches to be given a platform. (No offense to the Bobs or Smiths out there.)   This goes for our seminaries as well with the local church being more the focus.

4)  Historically, Who Is Your Favorite Southern Baptist?

I’m not very good with favorites whether it’s Southern Baptists or ice cream.  So I’ll take two scoops, please.  I’ll eat one now and one later when the time is right.

Mark, how exciting that you are in the earliest part of your ministry. I pray God manifests Himself in multiple ways through you as you serve Him. I look forward to reading your thoughts. I especially love the idea of small-unknowns to be heard from and emphasized in our convention. Our smaller church ministers are so underrated and sometimes forgotten as they lead their congregations in supporting missions and the cooperative program. Bless you as you go forward. selahV

Hi Selah,

I appreciate the kind words. It’s funny how things don’t always come out in print as you hear them in your head. I hope to contribute something worth while here.

Sorry I didn’t get back sooner. I’ve been redesigning at my place and I’m finally finished! :)
