Thank you, Peter Lumpkins.
I know, I know… Not a sentence that you will see often. But, in light of a typical shock jock post that he wrote about myself and Voices, I have to give him his due… He reminded me of what a dumb Calvinist I can be at times.
Dave Miller wrote a great post on Thursday about Calvinism and its mostly negative affect in the SBC blogosphere, and I agree. On Voices especially, the topic of Calvinism draws out the worst in all of us. My posts on this blog regarding Calvinism and/or the Conservative Resurgence have garnered some of the largest comment sections ever produced on this website, but the comments are mostly full of venom and division among brothers and sisters in Christ. Ultimately, I had hoped the posts would bring about sharpening discussion, but never did (duh.).
At the end of the day, it’s about Christ. He didn’t die on the cross for us to argue about secondary systematics, and this blog should do everything possible to prevent such destructive conversations in the future.
As for my tweet that Lumpkins referred to on his blog, I’d like to thank him, as well, for reminding me how not to blog (devisively and pointlessly). Let me take this opportunity to clarify that the tweet was a joke based on Whosoever Will and does not actually refer to how I feel about any of those men. I happen to know and like Malcolm Yarnell and Steve Lemke very much, who also contributed to the book.
And, I did land a great gig at an SBC church in the Tyler, Texas area… praise be to God. 🙂
