The Gospel Project Webcast Is on NOW!

March 14, 2012 by Dave Miller

Here is the link to the gospel project webcast.  The webcast itself begins at 2:00 PM, but I think there will be coverage starting about 1:30 – that is Central Daylight Time. LifeWay has some of the friendliest people I’ve met, they’ve been great hosts.

Hope some of you will take the time to follow along.

I will be adding comments below.

Trevin Wax: going deep means different things to different people.  To some, its all about information, but even demons know.  Others simply want immediate application and treat the Bible like a self-help book.  The Gospel Project is information connected to the Big Picture story of the Bible – what God has done for us in Christ, dying to save helpless sinners.

Viewing the Bible as the overarching storyline that has Jesus as the hero!

Matt Chandler:  Bothered when he has heard people say they have grown up in church not really heard the gospel in full depth.

Ed Stetzer: Gospel Project is trending nationally right now!

Matt Chandler:  Interviewed many church kids whose idea of Christianity was a list of moral dos and don’ts.  He wants people to understand the transformational power of Christ.

Romans 1. 1 Corinthians 15. Galatians.  Paul continually emphasizes the gospel not only to unbelievers but to the whole church.

They are going to use the OT types of the Bible (doing it responsibly) to show that God/Christ is the hero of the Bible story (I like that phrasing).  It’s about Jesus, not just a series of moral stories to make children behave.  It is Christ who gives us the power to do that which scripture commands.

Matt Chandler:  the pulpit drives everything at The Village (his church).

It is not that we do not have to live a holy life.  It is that we can’t live that life simply through our own moral efforts.  As we are saved by God’s grace, our holiness is also made possible through Christ.

(NOTE: I’m not fast enough to make exact quotes.  These are not quotes, but my interpretation of the quotes.  If there is a problem, it may be with me.  These are “Dave’s interpretations of what Trevin, Ed, Matt and JD said.”)

JD Greear (why is he hogging that extra e?)

Freedom from sin comes when the passion for God overwhelms the passion for other things.
