Tweaking Our Wesbite Layout

by Tony Kummer on January 1, 2009

Last night, or rather early this morning, I finally found some time to tweak the layout here on SBC voices. The main goal was to move our blog posts to the front page while retaining the aggregation boxes front and center. The easiest way to do this was using the “sticky post” feature from the latest version of WP.

I also backed off the number of items displayed in those boxes, but never fear – we now have a SBC blogs directory page that displays the a much longer list of recent posts – something like 15 buzz posts and 50 latest posts. You can also view the latest posts from your state.

I also tried to further simplify the sidebar while retaining the focus on reader comments.

Leave me a comment and let me know what you think. You can also give me any suggestions to make this website better.

Tony,
For my two-cents the only change I would like to see is to have a “Recent Posts” widget on the sidebar for SBC Voices posts inplace of a “Top 10 Commentators” widget. That was the immediate thing I noticed was gone and I was like, Where did it go?

Hey Tony…I think a lead-in of the first few sentences of the latest post would be a good way to see the SBC Voices’ contributors. Then list the others posts. Don’t know if that’s possible. Just thinking outloud. Sorry I haven’t written lately. Am trying to get my brain in gear. selahV
