A Cooperative Opportunity

April 9, 2009 by Jeff Musgrave

With all the recent talk about our strength in cooperation, I thought this was a timely request.  I have written a couple of posts and comments here about the Dakota Baptist Convention and our spirit of cooperation.  Later this month, the DBC is hosting an evangelism conference in Fargo, ND called Pulse.  You can look at the DBC website for more information about us.

The conference will feature some wonderful speakers and breakout sessions, but it has been modified in response to the flooding issues in the Fargo area.  As many of you may know, the Fargo area has experienced record flooding already this spring and they may be in for another round before the end of April.  The local churches in the Fargo area are coordinating an effort to give a gift bag to families impacted by the flood.  They are hoping to include a $10 gift card for a hardware store and a $10 gas card along with some other goodies and a Gospel message and church information. It is going to be a good chance to put the conference into action immediately as we pray, engage the community and sow seeds of the gospel.

We would also love to have as many people praying for this effort as possible.  The dates of the conference and the distribution will be April 23-24th.  Please pray leading up to this time and especially during the afternoon on those days for the teams that are going through the city.  The plan is for those who arrive early on Thursday to prayer walk and distribute the bags and then to go out again in place of the Friday afternoon breakout sessions to finish the job.  Distribution should begin at 1 PM on both days and conclude around 5 PM.

In addition to prayer, there is a financial need for this effort.  The cost of each bag is about $21 and the goal is to distribute 1000 bags.  The local association has put $2000 toward the cost of these bags, but the total cost is going to be around $21,000.  If there are any who read here that would be interested in giving to this effort, it will be needed.  We are going to give out as many bags as we can put together with the money that is raised.  Donations of any amount can be sent care of the South Valley Baptist Association:
