I was blessed to speak at chapel at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary on Tuesday. I didn’t realize they were doing video (remember the camera adds 135 pounds!).

it is said that Christ did not remove suffering from this world, but in taking it upon Himself, He transformed it into a way for us to love to the end, even our enemies, and even in the midst of our own suffering

While I am at it here, let me say that the job that Dr. Allen is doing at Midwestern is amazing. They have taken some good steps toward sorting out some of the issues that have plagued Midwestern in the past. They are growing. They are attracting some wonderful profs and administrators. Maybe one of these days, we in the Midwest will be able to say that “our” seminary is the flagship of the fleet in the SBC!
Two years in, the BoT’s choice is looking pretty good!
So, write a piece about what he is doing.
Perhaps, but in short –
*He has stabilized things and brought peace to a place that was in constant turmoil.
*He has attracted good people for leadership. Jason Duesing in the new provost. John Mark Yeats. Christian George. He has assembled a great leadership team.
*Registration is up about 18% this year. That’s pretty significant.
*Fundraising is going very well. I assume that those things he shared with me were for general dissemination – they broke fundraising record this last year or so.
*He has great plans for the campus. Some plans are underway. He’s not building the Taj Mahal, but practical plans for a very nice campus.
*The new chapel is nice. Not luxurious or anything, but nice.
If only I could convince him that Midwestern is MWBTS. He’s pretty adamant on that.
That was probably a condition of the trustee vote!
The scholar Christian George is an awesome addition to the seminary. May only good come from his influence.

Dave, finally got a chance to watch and enjoy the vimeo. I found myself singing out a few of the songs as you went through your introduction. What a great message about the cross… What a “right time” He came and finished His work!

Dave, the only thing I see wrong is that the microphone it extended all the way up and it’s still not tall enough. They had to give you an ear microphone. They were not prepared for you. Good job.
