rec. 7. – NAMB
no questions. No opposition. No time to read it because we are all still voting.
The quorum amendment is needed—all the more since now everyone knows that one could call for a quorum in a sparsely attended morning meeting and bring the entire convention to its knees. While that was a closely guarded secret, there was some sense of this as a non-problematic problem. But now that it has been announced from the convention platform, it’s pretty doggone important that we change this quorum language.
Look, I miss a lot of votes. I miss them because I’m out in the hall talking to people. I miss them because I’m looking at the exhibits. I miss them because I have to make a pit stop.
When I miss votes it is never…never…because somebody successfully hid the convention agenda from me and kept me from being there. This is about our taking responsibility for our own decisions not to be on the convention floor when business is taking place. The people who bothered to show up shouldn’t be penalized for my distraction by other things.
