Ed Stetzer has a Friday feature where he posts signs. It’s one of my favorites – can’t believe some people actually put things on their church signs that they do. A case in point: sent to me today. I should send it to Ed, but I thought I’d just post it here. Is this fanaticism? Idolatry? Or normal Alabama silliness?
You make the call.
Let’s all join together in hoping that Bama loses a game they shouldn’t be in anyway.
We find so many things that divide us on blogs. But then we all come together united in the desire to see Alabama go down in heinous defeat.
I dedicate this to a low-down BUZZARD-EYE adapted from 1953 movie classic, SHANE.
cb: So you’re Dave Miller.
Dave Miller: What’s that mean to you, cb?
cb: I’ve heard about you.
Dave Miller: What have you heard, cb?
cb: I’ve heard that you’re a low-down Buzzard- EYED, private email postin’ Yankee liar.
Dave Miller: Prove it.
cb: Gladly. ROLL TIDE ROLL!!
I’m so confused by this, CB. You call me “low-down” then you call me a “Yankee”. You seem to be unsure whether to insult me or to compliment me.
Low-down is obviously meant with a negative turn.
But there is no higher compliment than “Yankee.” So, I’m a little confused by the whole thing, sir.
I just spoke with some friends who went to DTS with Dave Miller.
In the spirit of Paul Harvey: Now for the rest of the story:
It seems that Dave Miller tutored Terry Taylor in Christian Ethics 101. Makes sense to me. Naturally, Taylor failed the class. Miller was terminated as a tutor at DTS and given permanent latrine duty by the Student Ethics Committee, chaired by Dr. Charles Ryrie, who was so angry with Miller that he refused to autograph Miller’s Ryrie Study Bible.
Later Miller enrolled at SWBTS. Afterwards, he moved to Iowa where he became an evil Buzzard-Eye fan, embittered because the Buzzard-Eyes could never be part of the SEC.
His evilness brought him to hire his disciple, Terry Taylor, to put this sign up to discredit the great SABANATION and its honorable fans. How low some from the Lesser Conference fans will go is really beyond belief.
Yet, be assured, the SABANATION shall rise above such evil from this Bizzard-Eyed Yankee and win a 14th National Championship on 01-09-12.
That’s because we are the ALABAMA CRIMSON TIDE!!
I actually had classes from Charles Ryrie. I remember him. He would never have remembered me.
I just got a call from one of the numerous Sabanites living in Iowa as missionaries. They tell me Terry Taylor served three years as Dave Miller’s associate pastor and sermon researcher before coming to Alabama to serve as pastor in one of Dave’s satellite campuses.
BTW, they are dogmatic Anti-Sabanists. They are definitely “hope-so” verses the Sabanite “know-so” when it comes to winning at football.
“Let’s all join together in hoping that Bama loses a game they shouldn’t be in anyway.”
Last time I checked Alabama was ranked #2 in the BCS standings. Therefore, they should be in the championship.
Don’t hate the player. Hate the game.
(or don’t hate the team, hate the BCS)
Only because voters are stupid.
Like I meant to imply: The BCS is the problem which includes the voting system.
I’m all for settling it on the field. A 4 team playoff with LSU, Alabama, Oklahoma St. and Stanford would have been fun to watch.
Arkansas might be the 3rd best team in the nation behind LSU and Bama. The Hawgs only losses were to….tum ta dee dum….LSU and Bama!
David
That is true my SEC Lodge Brother.
Arkansas is definitely number 3 in the nation.
Monday will put everything else in order. There will be no confusion in the FOOTBALL UNIVERSE.
1) ? of the SEC
2) ? of the SEC
3) ARKANSAS RAZORBACK NATION of the SEC
Dave, you dare call yourself a Bible-believing Baptist Christian, and yet you suggest there is something wrong with this sign?!?!?
It’s straight out of the Bible, brother. I’m sure it is, as sure as the church members who knew that “Cleanliness is next to Godliness” and “Neither a lender nor a borrower be” are. Better get with the program!
Now I’ll show how much of a moderate I am: I root for Auburn 364 days a year!
John Fariss
Oh: those of you who have not had the blessings of living in ‘Bama and in the enlightened realm of Souutheastern Conference Football may not know that the last regular game of the season for Alabama & Auburn is when they face each other in the “Iron Bowl.”
John
John Farris,
I was at Legion Field today. Some great memories from that place, huh?
Alabama-Auburn games played there were sometimes “action packed” for you guys on the BPD if I recall. 🙂
I put this on the FOOTBALL post, but since this post ‘is’ about Alabama football and it was ‘me’ who sent the picture to Dave in the first place and he ‘did’ with evil glee in his heart put it up before I could even get back to my blog computer, I feel it fitting to place the following here also:
“Being at Legion Field today for the BBAV Compass Bowl between Pitt and SMU brings back memories. Legion field was the first place I saw the Crimson Tide play long ago as a kid. It is a great old field with great football tradition.
SMU rolled over Pitt 28-6 and dominated the whole game.
The atmosphere was that of a Bowl Game with the addition of one thing.
I heard “Roll Tide” come from people all over the stadium. There were more Alabama caps, hats, shirts and jackets than there were of both SMU and Pitt together.
That just goes to show you, you can put a Sabanite in any stadium, watching any other teams play you would desire, but at some point, in some way, the Sabanite will get around to saying or doing something that will pay honor to the SABANATION over all others.
Brothers and sisters, I know this is the Sports Blog and “Smack Talk” is the preferred way of communication here. This is just for fun and nothing more. After all, football is simply a game and should never be anything else in the mind of a fan.
But, I think we can all take a lesson from the SABANATION and relate it to our faith.
No matter where you put a Sabanite or where you may find him, he is going to talk about Alabama football.
It should be the same way with us. No matter where a follower of Christ may find himself, if he is there long enough, he should say or do something that will pay honor to Jesus above all others.
As for me, when I get to the end,I really don’t care if anyone says, “He was a Bama fan.”
When I get to the end, I desire, pray, hope, and intend to live in such a way that it is said, “He followed Jesus.”
I’ll be honest with you folks, “ONWARD CHRISTIAN SOLDIERS” moves my heart far more than roll tide roll.”
