YOUR LIGHT SHALL BREAK FORTH LIKE THE DAWN
for this to happen, a lot of good Baptist people gave much from their own hearts . . .
“the Lord hears the cry of the poor . . . blessed be the Lord”
6 Is this not, rather, the fast that I choose:
releasing those bound unjustly,
untying the thongs of the yoke;
Setting free the oppressed,
breaking off every yoke?
7 Is it not sharing your bread with the hungry,
bringing the afflicted and the homeless into your house;
Clothing the naked when you see them,
and not turning your back on your own flesh?
8 Then your light shall break forth like the dawn,
and your wound shall quickly be healed;
Your vindication shall go before you,
and the glory of the LORD shall be your rear guard.
9 Then you shall call, and the LORD will answer,
you shall cry for help, and He will say: “Here I am!”
If you remove the yoke from among you,
the accusing finger, and malicious speech;
10 If you lavish your food on the hungry
and satisfy the afflicted;
Then your light shall rise in the darkness,
and your gloom shall become like midday;
11 Then the LORD will guide you always
and satisfy your thirst in parched places,
will give strength to your bones
And you shall be like a watered garden,
like a flowing spring whose waters never fail. ”
(from the Book of Isaiah:58 )
thank you for this post . . . it strengthens my faith
Most folks probably don’t know this, but CB’s church .. Westmont Baptist .. was at the forefront of ministering to people in their area. Tornadoes hit about a mile on either side of them, and for months, they fed 200-300 (and maybe more) hot meals a day to people in those areas. When the need for that tapered off, they continued by housing teams that had come from all over to work in disaster recovery, in their fellowship building.
I don’t think that got a lot of attention at the state level or above, but I do have video recorded of Fox 6 here, showing folks out there preparing to serve people. And I might add the tornadoes were Wednesday, and I believe they started work on Thursday and by Friday had asked FBC Pelham to help, and we took food out there Saturday the 30th.
I was more impressed by Westmont’s response, even, than by the SBC at the state of national level.
This video is very impressive . Self contained – no potable water or electric necessary – which is hardly ever available ; and the knowledge these men have to keep this hummer “ginning” can’t be acquired overnight the day before you need it . Many victims don’t have a place to sit down – much less eat a warm meal under cover from rain & wind with lights to see . I didn’t know the Red Cross helped keep the foodstuffs coming but I did know that cb scott was making himself and the manpower associated with his church available. Every day is a re-occurring emergency for victims who probably aren’t straight yet and haven’t had the opportunity to express their thanks to those involved. Good Work. What department in SBC bought this truck and pays to operate it if anyone knows ? Is there more than one ? At what cost ?
I see reflected in this post an act of charity inspired from the goodness of the Holy Gospels of Our Lord . . .
people in need of help are receiving it . . . . no one is being rejected or sent away because of their ethnic background or their religion.
This is in harmony with the example of Our Lord’s care in the beautiful story of Christ’s healing of the Canaanite woman’s daughter
When Christian people bring their acts of loving-kindness into harmony with the way that Our Lord was with people, when He was among us,
the world takes notice.
Our Lord is honored by the example of His followers when they freely extend their hands in outreach to those who are in need.
