Editor: Yielding to the inevitable, I am naming the Rev. Dr. CB Scott as the Sports Editor of SBC Voices. It is just the recognition of reality!
Hello Sports Fans! The weekend we have all been waiting for is upon us. During these dull months with nothing but Trad and Cal fights to attend in the Baptist Blog World I know you all have been longing with baited breath for College FOOTBALL season to arrive so you can feel alive once more as the leaves fall down to the earth and the B-B-Q smoke ascends into the clouds.
It is my good pleasure as a bona fide FOOTBALL genius and prognosticator to share my knowledge with you to help you know how to enjoy the greatest of all Sports Seasons. Now please understand I am not being boastful. I was blessed to be born in a SEC Nation. All humans born within the FOOTBALL Nations of the SEC are of genius caliber about FOOTBALL. This is especially true of those so fortunate to be born in the SABANATION of which I am one. Yes, it is my humble joy to have been born a Sabanite.
So here goes Sports Fans! Let’s get the season started with a SEC style bang!!!
Any self respecting Sports Fan who owns a remote control will be checking to see the SEC Nations on his TV no matter what FOOTBALL Conference he lives in at the moment. I have a great compassion for all you fans who live in the Lesser Conferences, so I am going to share with you the SEC lineup for this weekend so you can flip that remote from your Lesser FOOTBALL Nation’s play-like game to the real thing with much more ease.
Aug. 30 – South Carolina will play a SEC sister Nation, Vanderbilt.
Aug. 30 – Texas A&M makes their first SEC appearance against Louisiana Tech
Aug. 31 – Tennessee will stomp N.C. State in the Chick-Fil-A Kickoff Game in Atlanta.
Sept. 1 – Georgia will dine on Buffalo
Sept. 1 – Florida will bowl over Bowling Green
Sept. 1 – Auburn will Clean Clemson in another Chick-Fil-A Kickoff game in Atlanta.
Sept. 1 – The LSU SWAMP LIZARDS will burn down North Texas
Sept. 1 – Mississippi State will win one against Jackson State (I hope).
Sept. 1 – Arkansas will venture into Alabama and put a whuppin’ on Jacksonville State. (The only Alabama team they will defeat this year.)
Sept. 1 – Missouri will travel south and make mules out of Southeastern Louisiana.
Sept. 1 – Kentucky will take a bus ride over to Louisville and pluck the feathers out of the Cardinals.
Then there is the big one!
The SABANATION will be in Arlington, TX for the Cowboy Classic and take the hides off of a little band of Wolverines from Michigan. That one will be on ABC at 8:00 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT
And finally, for all you folks so unfortunate to live in Iowa and cheer for the Lesser Nation known as the BUZZARD-EYES, who do not have corn to harvest or pigs to feed, Northern Illinois will be roasting your feathers on August 31. If I were you, I would just watch the Tennessee game and wish I lived in the SEC where real FOOTBALL is played. Bless your hearts.
Can you hear it? I can! It is ROLL TIDE ROLL!!!
CB, congratulations on your new position. We will discuss salary.
Thank you Dave, SBC Boss #3. I will seek to make you and Tony proud. I will make every effort to be honest in reporting the gloriousness of the SEC and especially will I be noble as I exalt the Flagship of the SEC and Boss Nation of all FOOTBALL Nations, the SABANATION. In addition, as the compassionate Sabanite I was reared to be following the example of the late, great Paul “Bear” Bryant, I shall extend kindness and gentleness toward those Nations and fans of the Lesser FOOTBALL Conferences. I will, in your honor, be especially benevolent to the… Read more »
That should be: “Sports Editor for ‘SBC’ Voices” not ‘EBC’ Voices. Please do not dock my pay for the error. The stress of this position is rather overwhelming as you know.
How is it that Dave Miller’s typos get magically corrected, but typos of the Sports Editor don’t? I suggest that as part of your salary negotiation, you insist on getting access to the magical typo corrector.
Thank you Ben Coleman.
But we must remember the Sports page is never the “Front” page. That is even true in the Birmingham News. And besides, Dave is a Yankees fan. Go figure.
Typo?
I see no typo.
Dear Sports editor of SBC Voices,
Please receive this in the spirit in which it is spoken. May you TV screen be Boise State Blue all season long.
With respect,
Mr. Potato Head
*your
Seriously, I have cheered for Boise State in big games – like when they played, and beat the evil Oklahoma Sooners.
But that blue field is AWFUL! I cannot stand watching games on that abomination.
You are right, Dave. It is an abomination. Why would any FOOTBALL Nation paint the field blue?
No mention of Boise State?
Is that a 1-AA team?
easy…

An apology is due to the Sports Fans of the SEC Nation, Ole Miss. I left you out of this weekend’s line-up.
Ole Miss will be dealing out “miss”ery to Central Arkansas on Sept 1.
Ole Miss can never be forgotten because the great Archie Manning came to fame there. Long live the Manning clan and march on Ole Miss.
A win against UCA isn’t much for a big boy team. It’s kind of like playing a Big Ten school. Sure, it’s a win, but can you really sleep at night knowing you beat up on a little guy?
CB,
Isn’t that Land Mass U?
…and don’t even get me started on you missing the ORANGE POWER!!!
Congrats on your promotion from chief instigator to chief sports obfuscator! 😀
A&M v. La. Tech at Shreveport’s Independence Stadium has been postponed until October 13. A&M season will commence on September 8th with the Florida Gators meeting us on Kyle Field. Gig’em Aggies!
Greg Harvey,
Thank you for bringing that postponement to the thread.
In all seriousness, I would like to request that all the readers of Voices be in prayer for the folks who are in the wake and possible wake of Hurricane Isaac.
Many of you are probably aware that NOBTS has closed down all classes and advised the administration has advised the faculty and student body to evacuate the city of New Orleans. Pray for our brothers and sisters as they wait this one out away from their homes.

Also note that in order to properly pronounce Shreveport (that is, to pronounce it the way the natives do), you have to note that the ‘v’ is silent. Pronounce it as if it was spelled ‘Shreeport’.
(My dad grew up just across the border in El Dorado, AR, so I got an earful of this whenever I visited Grandpa’s)
Go Texas Tech! 8-5, here we come!
I’m not a fan of football, except for the opportunity it provides to eat chili.
I’m with you Bill. The only reason I watched football as a kid was that Dad always made popcorn at halftime. Sit me down in front of a football game, and I can enjoy it, but I rarely actually plan to watch.
Simply put…

ROLL TIDE!
Cant wait for 10/13!!! Mizzou will get stomped but that still will be one great game. There is even an outside chance I will get to go.
Rapidly approaching is the Kickoff for two of the SEC’s Eastern Division 2012 FOOTBALL season. The GAMECOCK NATION is in the Southern Baptist Capital City to play the VANDY NATION. The Vandy-Gamecock record is 17-4 in favor of the GAMECOCK NATION. Another tidbit of information is that Steve Spurrier, the Gamecock head coach is 21-1 in opening game wins. Vandy’s head coach, James Franklin, is in his second year. Last year he led the the academic elites of Vanderbilt to a 6-7 season. I do not know how academically elite running back, Marcus Lattimore is, but by the end of… Read more »
Strange indeed. Vandy tied with SC at the half?
Have no fear GAMECOCK NATION Fans. Conner Shaw will be back and Steve Spurrier will make magic in the second half.
As a quick aside, down in the lower levels, the Ouachita Baptist University Tigers won the first NCAA game of the season last night.
Our record against Our Lady of the Broken Leg is now 1-0, all time.
WHAT’S THIS???!!! A Total disrespect of the venerated PAC 12 brethren? I’m hurt, crushed, dismayed……..but not surprised. Our Sports Editor is a proud and self-professed Sabanite. I suppose I’ll have to sit in my own little corner and watch as the West quietly displaces the East in the polls.
PAC-Man was one of my favorite games as a kid 🙂
I honestly thought the PAC-12 had given up football. Sorry.
Wait, they haven’t?
Dale Pugh,
You seem like an intelligent fellow. Do you really think PAC-12 is worthy of respect as a FOOTBALL Conference?
Are you actually a DUCK NATION Fan or were you just jokin’ around?
Thanks for the compliment. Yes, I am a Duck fan. Comes from my years of living and ministering in Oregon, though now I live and minister in Texas. So, I suppose my intelligence may be questionable on two points, huh? I like the Ducks and live in Texas. Go figure…..haha!
Back in the day, I remember a magazine that was dedicated to Cock Fighting. The name of the magazine was “GRIT and STEEL.”
Conner Shaw just lived up to the title of Grit and Steel. You just gotta love a kid like that.
Steve Spurrier is now 22-1 for opening game wins. It was ugly, but it is still a win.
Vandy did come out to play hoping for a chicken dinner, but Shaw and Lattimore just proved to be the Top “Roosters” on the field tonight.
glad someone finally got around to the important things in life……………………
Glad to oblige.
A surprising development for me: I tried watching SEC games last year during A&M’s final year in the Big 12 and I simply couldn’t do it. But I thoroughly enjoyed the Carolina v. Vandy game last night.
Doubly surprising was Mike Leach’s balanced offense in the doubleheader between Wazzu and his alma mater (he did not play football) BYU. Less surprising was his team getting beat like a drum by the other Cougars.
I didn’t know Leach was an LDS (and according to his Wiki page fairly active) until last night. Color me somewhat surprised.
On my way home from visiting with a friend at Samford University, I stopped in at a Chick-Fil-A to pick up some fine groceries for the Chick-Fil-A Kickoff Game tonight between The VOLUNTEER NATION and the WOLFPACK NATION. That one will be on ESPNU tonight at 7:30 ET/ 6:30 CT. The VOLUNTEER NATION needs a good first game win to start off what has been a dry spell for the Rocky Top singers and Blue-tick charmers of the SEC. Tennessee has a history as a powerhouse among FOOTBALL Nations. it is high time for their return to prominence as is… Read more »
I just had a short text dialogue with the number one VOLUNTEER NATION Fan, Volfan 007, David Worley.
He has the right FOOTBALL food, is singing Rocky Top, and is ready for the Blue-Tick hound to run a pack of wolf cubs from NC into a hole in the ground.
All your SEC brothers are in your corner tonight, Vol. Let the Wolf Hunt begin. Burn ’em down Ole Blue.
There are some Lesser FOOTBALL Nation games today. One that a few Sports Fans might be interested in is that of the match-up between the SPARTAN NATION of Michigan State against the PONY-BOY NATION of Boise State known to those with delusional tendencies as the Broncos. Trust me Sports Fans for I shall never lead you astray. No PeeWee football team from Boise should ever try to use the name Broncos. To do so is an abomination and an insult to a great western animal and a fine professional FOOTBALL team such as is the Denver Broncos. I would comment… Read more »
Oh Yeah!!
Just to make sure we are fair to the Lesser Nations, GO SPARTANS!! Run those little Boise Ponies down and tame ’em. Rope, throw, and brand ’em.
Make the Michigan folks proud. Of course no one in Michigan will be very proud of your sister Nation after the SABANATION gets done with them tomorrow night in the Cowboy Classic down in Arlington.
ROLL TIDE ROLL!!!
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOhhhhh yeaaaaaaaaaa! Go Vols!!!!! Wooooooooooooooooooooooo hooooooooooooooooooooo! Up 22-7 on the Wolfpack after 1 quarter.
CB is right….I just got thru eating BBQ and fries….then, I had some hot, Apple Dumplings right out of the oven…..smacking my mouth on that one….wow.
And, to top it off…..watching the Vols playing FOOTBALL SEC style!!!
David
Vol,
The Big Orange is going all SEC all over these little NC wolves.
It seems that the SPARTAN NTION is riding herd on the Boise State Pony Boys.
Thus far a perfect night in the FOOTBALL UNIVERSE!
I love it when I hear the crowd singing “Rocky Top” near the end of the game! That means good things have happened. Way to go, Vols! Good win over a good North Carolina St. team….ranked in the top 25 in some polls.
Well Vol,
It seems that Coach Dooley’s new coaching line-up has proven well founded.
Ole Smokey ran that pack of wolves to ground with plenty of “howl” to spare. Put another win up for the SEC. Eat your hearts out ACC fans because tomorrow night Auburn has invited another of your Nations to a chicken dinner on Chick-Fill-A’s dime and the CLEMSON NATION will leave Georgia in the same shape the WOLFPACK NATION left, as losers.
It was a little tight there, but the SPARTAN NATION pulled it off and rode down the Boise State Pony Boys for one in the win column.
That gives all the FOOTBALL UNIVERSE some degree of peace this year. Boise State will not be able to whine about not getting any respect for being looked over for a National Championship shot. They just played the best team they will play this year and lost. it is over. No blue field will be the home of a National Champion. Some things just turn our right.
It was almost a perfect night, Sports Fans. The Orioles Beat the Yankees 6-1. That was sweeeet music in the baseball world. But there was some sadness in Mudville. The Braves lost one in the 10th to the Phillies 8-5. Oh well. Tomorrow is another day. And tomorrow brings the SABANATION rolling over the WOLVERINE NATION and putting on a FOOTBALL exhibition for all those PeeWee FOOTBALL Leaguers in Texas who rarely see greatness on the gridiron because there is only one real FOOTBALL Nation in Texas. Of course, that Nation is the AGGIE NATION. SEC! SEC!! SEC!!! and most… Read more »
Texas football is NOT defined by the Aggies. Someone is a little prone to SEC hyperbole. Though I will agree with his prediction as to the game in Arlington tomorrow.
And since the Ducks are playing Arkansas State (Arkansas is an actual “state”?), I’ll simply let all PAC 12 disrespect roll off my back. Like the water on the proverbial water fowl.
I think C.B. was merely offering that if you want to see the purest, most virile form of football in Texas, you should look for the teams of the conference that has had seven participants in the last six national championship games and won all of them. The majority of those games that happen in Texas this year will take place in College Station. That by itself forced the nation to accept a much better playoff system designed to let the best four teams meet over two weeks to find out on the field who the national champion is. The… Read more »
I’m encouraged by your Rangers fandom! I honestly hope the Aggies do well in the SEC. I think it will be a difficult road for them. The SEC is tough.
The AGGIE NATION and the MISSOURI NATION will both come into their first season as SEC Nations by a, shall we say, baptism by fire in “TIDE”al wave proportions. The MISSOURI NATION faces the SEC Flagship, THE SABANATION, in T-Town, no less, on a sweet fall day in October, the 13th to be specific. The AGGIE NATION faces the THE BOSS OF BOSSES OF FOOTBALL coaches, ST NICK SABAN, and the CRIMSON TIDE, in T-Town on November 10. Both Nations will learn quickly why we say ROLL TIDE ROLL here in the sovereign state of Alabama with pride on those… Read more »
I think the Ducks will help settle the “Arkansas State will be a contender” rhetoric we’ve been hearing around here. They may have a fancy new coach, tried and tested in the SEC, but it’s a long road before this becomes a two-team state.
I’m of the opinion that Oregon just wants a better start to the season than they had last year against LSU. Thank the Lord that they got it against Arkansas St. yesterday!
The GEORGIA BULLDOG NATION of SEC fame and glory is going to help one of the Lesser FOOTBALL Conference Nations get some national exposure today and make a little gate money for some new uniforms and badly needed equipment such as helmets for all of the players so they do not have to share helmets and swap during each change of possession during the game. That’s right! The missional-minded Bulldogs are going to play the Buffalo Bulls today over in Georgia. It is my understanding that the Bulls arrived safely in Athens by Greyhound Bus Lines early yesterday after a… Read more »
Accustomed as I am to the convention that LOTS OF ALL-CAPS WORDS is considered SHOUTING, I keep having to resist the urge to try to turn the volume down on CB.
Ben Coleman, You are right. In most all cases the use caps is shouting in the various forum of communication by print, we use today. Yet, when one enters the FOOTBALL UNIVERSE, one must learn that due respect must be observed when writing such words as FOOTBALL, the names of SEC NATIONS, etc., etc. Therefore, it is not only appropriate, but highly expected to use all caps when addressing such a vaulted Sport as FOOTBALL. I will introduce you and all the Baptist Blog World to additional rules as we go along this season. I must do this in bits… Read more »
CONCERNING FOOTBALL, CB’S VOLUME NEVER SEEMS TO GO DOWN.
There’s no need to shout, Dave (unless you’re trying to be heard over CB).
My mind whispers TRADITION,
My voice screams PRIDE,
My veins bleed CRIMSON,
And my heart pumps TIDE!
Therefore, how could the volume go down?
ROLL TIDE ROLL!!!
Is ‘vaulted’ the right word? I don’t remember seeing poles in use during play.
The dictionary gives me these two meanings for vaulted:
1. To construct or supply with an arched ceiling; cover with a vault.
2. To build or make in the shape of a vault; arch.
Since I can’t imagine CB saying there’s anything arch about FOOTBALL (happy, CB?), I’m left in confusion.
Ben Coleman,
The use of such word as “exalted” are forbidden in a Sports Blog. Therefore we invent words that do not come near such terms. That is part of rule Number One.
Rule Number One: Never use the faith or any element of the faith in a joking manner about sports. Sports is strictly for fun. The faith is a matter of life and death. The two shall not be mixed.
Yet, I am so proud of athletes like Timmy Tebow who exalts Jesus wherever he goes.
Could it be that the word he’s searching for is “vaunted?” quite possibly the problem is a lack of emphasis on such things as vocabulary in schools where the official religion is football. Just sayin’…….
‘Vaunted’ sounds right to me, Dale. Unless he’s referring to the tunnel out of which the players run at the beginning of the game (which might be considered a ‘vault’, especially if the ceiling is rounded).
Gentlemen, You poor, miserable, wretches of a Lesser FOOTBALL Conference with no Sports culture whatsoever. The word “Vaulted” is used here to emphasis that which is “above” the reach of others. We do not use the word “exalted.” Therefore, the word “vaulted” is used instead. What a burden I have in store as I try to bring some of you into the true world of Big Time Sports and the understanding of FOOTBALL as experienced in the SBC. I truly think many of you were born in Oklahoma and have as of yet, not left your history as SOONERS behind… Read more »
Actually, I was born in Ohio (Columbus, as a matter of fact. Home of the OSU Buckeyes), then lived in Baton Rouge, LA (LSU, of course), then New Joisey, then Fairmont, WV (20 miles from the WVU Mountaineers, and the Pepperoni Roll capital of the world) before finally ending up in Metro Atlanta. Though Dad will be cheering LSU, the Buckeyes and the Mountaineers this fall (not to mention the Steelers), I never really inherited Dad’s sports fan gene (he even watches golf). Despite being lured to watch many football games by the promise of popcorn at halftime, it didn’t… Read more »
And, CB? If this is considered kind, I’d hate to get on your bad side.
I think the BUFFALO BULL NATION is beginning to realize the original purpose of the breeding of Bulldogs; That of “Bull Baiting,” a long outlawed Sport from the “Old Country.” Little did those NY boys know, some “Sports” have never died in the Southland. In a short time today, the folks from Bowling Green are going to find out why it is dangerous for BOWLING GREEN FALCONS to fly to close to the ground in the GATOR NATION. Falcons and ‘Gators just don’t mix well. That one starts this afternoon at 3:30 ET/2:30 CT on ESPN. What a mess this… Read more »
Ben Coleman, You can deny it all you want, but once in the SEC, always in the SEC. No one leaves once in. It is like the Hotel California or the Mob. You never leave. Just ask Michael Corleone or those great Southern Rockers, the Eagles. There is LSU SWAMP LIZARD blood and mud in your veins. You can claim computer geek all you want to, but tonight when the SWAMP LIZARD NATION begins to hammer on those Little Leaguers from North Texas your heart rate will speed up and you will begin to yell LSU! LSU!! LSU!!! Don’t fight… Read more »
CB, there’s one flaw in your attempt to “pull me back in”: I have neither cable nor satellite, and none of the local broadcast stations are carrying that game. I can’t watch it, and thus can’t be swamped by the SWAMP LIZARD NATION. Unless I’m pulled into operating the Colorado QSO Party, the evening will probably be spent watching Star Trek and Numb3rs. Time to spiff up the antennas (such as they are), make sure the radios are in good shape, get… Read more »
Ben Coleman,
Bless your heart. There is always radio and the internet. Also, you can fall back on the old; “Hey neighbor, my TV is broke can I bring over some man-food and let’s watch the game together” trick. It worked for me even back in my college days when my wife sold my TV so I would study for exams, hoping I would graduate and not waste my life watching FOOTBALL and Baseball.
Dale, do you think the latter part of that comment explains the vocabulary problem?
Well played, Ben Coleman. Well played indeed. LOL.
Excellent. Most excellent comment of the day. I do hope to meet you in person one day. I shall buy you lunch and enjoy your quick wit. You remind me of Dave Miller and I do enjoy his company…..even though he is a Yankee fan. 🙂
I’ll look forward to it.
And, CB, I’ve been in the South long enough to know what “Bless your heart” means. 🙂
And by the way, you can call me just Ben.
Just Ben it is then.
So let me ask you, Just Ben
Does that name mean you are highly ethical?
Up to the point where people make silly jokes about my name.
BTW Ben Coleman,
The places you have lived; Does that mean your father was military?
No. Dad got a PHD in Chemistry at OSU (and I was born while he was there), and we moved to Baton Rouge when he got work as a researcher for (then) Esso. Esso moved us to New Joisey. After a few years, Dad got tired of researching for Esso, and became a Professor at Fairmont State College (West Virginia), where he stayed until retirement. I ended up in Metro Atlanta when computer jobs got scarce in WV, and on a trip with my mom to visit Grandpa (on my mom’s side) in Atlanta, I managed to snag an interview… Read more »
Ben Coleman,
Maybe we will catch up with each other one day in Georgia.
Atlanta traffic is much different than in WV, is it not?
Yes, West Virginia traffic is much more vertical.
When I was on the trip to move down to Atlanta, I noticed that as I came down I-85, the closer I got to Atlanta, the faster the traffic went.
As the GATOR NATION B-B-Q dinner begins with Falcon as the entree begins, I probably need to mention, in respect for Dave Miller, SBC Boss #3, and Big Boss of this Blog, that the BUZZARD-EYE NATION is leading Northern Illinois by 3.
Yeah, I know. Who cares? Nonetheless, it is good to show respect to the guy in charge, especially when he signs your check.
Yankees win! The-e-e-e Yankees Win!
Northern Illinois just went ahead of the BUZZARD-EYES 7-3.
The GATOR NATION is getting fat on B-B-Qed Falcon.
Nothing like B-B-Qed poultry, especially on opening day in the SEC. I do love tailgate parties.
Northern Illinois 17, BUZZARD-EYE NATION 9.
We can’t move the ball.
We can’t block for the QB.
We can’t stop a MAC team on defense.
I am not encouraged that the Hawkeyes are headed for a good season.
I’d still rather be a Hawkeye fan than cheer for Alabama.
“We can’t stop a MAC team on defense.”
Let’s all take a moment of silence and think about that for a moment. “__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________”
Now think about this one:
“I’d still rather be a Hawkeye fan than cheer for Alabama.”
Bless his heart. Bless his heart. How blind, O how blind can one man be????
I’d rather lose in honor than win in infamy.
On the other hand, the Hawks just took a 1 point lead with 2:15 left. If they can actually play defense, they will sneak away with a win.
Little pride, but a win.
When the play of the game is a punt your punter dropped inside the 1, that is not a great game.
The good guys get an underwhelming win.
On the other hand, about 30 minutes ago I did not expect them to get that.
“I’d rather lose in honor than win in infamy.”
Obviously you have not read, “The Art Of War” by Sun Tzu.
Nope.
Didn’t think so.
I’ve read Sun Tzu and Machiavelli. Interesting cats, the both of them.
Doug Hibbard,
Did you know that both of those guys were Irishmen by birth and coached the Crimson Tide back years ago in the Old Country before the team came over on the May Flower?
The two of you are very strange.
I thought being strange was almost a requirement for being here.
I figured Sun Tzu wrote the official unofficial rule book for the SEC, and that Machiavelli was the first Conference Commissioner.
I would just like to thank Michigan State for stopping the Boise nonsense early this year. Thank you, Michigan State.
I second that motion.
I like Boise State – they beat Oklahoma in a bowl game – that earns kudos from thinking folks.
But the simple fact is that if they played in the SEC, Big 10, Big 12, Big East, even ACC, their record the last few years would have been very different.
They’d have had a lot of 8-5, 9-4 type seasons.
I think I hate the Phillies. No, I know I hate the Phillies.
I dislike the Phillies, but beating Atlanta earns them some favor, doesn’t it?This comment cannot be allowed.
Honestly, for about 4 years they had the best team in baseball – barely an arguable point.
Yet, they won the WS once, lost to the Yankees in 2009 and got beat in the playoffs the last 2 years.
They should really have had 2 or 3 WS titles the last few years.
Not that I’m complaining.
Nope.
Well Sports Fans, it is time for cb the Sabanite to confess. One of my children, a daughter, 13 years of age, has for some unknown reason become an AUBURN NATION Fan. I have never cheered for Auburn except on rare occasions. But this morning my little girl asked me to watch the first half of the Auburn game with her and on the “Big” TV even. Love of family conquers all, Sports Fans. Love conquers all. I shall now eat my Sabanite pride and complete devotion and enter the den to watch and cheer for the AUBURN NATION against… Read more »
A good day. Yanks win. Hawks win. If Michigan could beat Alabama, I’d assume we have entered the Millennium.
Dave,
I think the folks in MIchigan may believe they have entered the Great Tribulation rather than the Millennium.
31-7 BAMA at the half.
ROLL TIDE ROLL.
Auburn is ahead of Clemson 19-16. The FOOTBALL UNIVERSE is looking bright and clear from Alabama right now.
Bama is kicking Michigan all over the field…..and Michigan is supposed to be #8 in the country. Puuleease.
On another note, Florida looked terrible today…..
Way to go, Hawkeyes! Yall beat Northwestern Eastern Illinois!! lol.
And, Oklahoma St(Scott Gordon) is beating Savannah Alternate High School for Pregnant Teens 70-0…..Way to go, Cowboys!
David
LOL
Well Sports Fans, What can I say?
Oh! I know!!
ROLL TIDE ROLL!!!
Sometimes, in this evil world, evil wins. In the end, though, righteousness will prevail.
Only after the Rangers eliminate the Great Evil during the playoffs.
The SEC made a money-over-football decision taking Mizzou over West Virginia. The WVU football culture would have been a perfect fit in the SEC, but they chose TV sets over talent and tradition. It’ll come back to haunt ya!
Jim G.
I wish we had gotten WVU into the SEC. Mizzou might bring us some basketball cred, though.
Doug Hibbard,
In time, both WVU and Clemson will come in from their respective dark sides and become Nations within the SEC. Have patience. It will happen.
I knew we wouldn’t end up with Clemson this time around, given the effort to not pick a school in an existing SEC state. I think WVU and maybe Virginia Tech would be great additions.
For basketball, there’s some schools in North Carolina, but I don’t know if anyone plays football in that state. Except maybe Southeastern Seminary.
Doug Hibbard,
As a SEBTS grad, I can tell you that FOOTBALL is not very well understood in NC. TAR HEELS have no concept, BLUE DEVILS are Methodists, and the rest can’t understand the formations.
All those who attended SEBTS in my day who were of CRIMSON TIDE heritage used to meet under the Chapel, in the big Ed. room and secretly talk about FOOTBALL and its glory early on Saturday morning. We would eat B-B-Q and dream of T-Town and the BAMA fight song as sweet music to our ears.
In an effort to help all of you who live among and cheer for the one of the Lesser FOOTBALL Conference Nations come to grips with the helplessness of your efforts to ever stand against the SEC, I want to share with you the following sobering information. Without counting the 30 total combined points scored by the GAMECOCK and VANDY NATIONS playing against each other, the SEC scored 438 combined points in week one in comparison to the 204 total points of their opposition. As you know the AGGIE NATION game was rescheduled due to the storm on the coast.… Read more »
Hey Sports Fans! From one of the Founding Fathers of the Baptist Blog World, I have stolen the following and am posting it without his permission. It relates to the world of politics and baseball and it is cool as hot grits on a frosty November morning in the Southland. Wes Kenny said: “The democrats reinserting God and Jerusalem in their platform is about as real as a football bat.” An excellent statement I must confess, even from a SOONER. The only thing wrong is he forgot to put “FOOTBALL” in caps, but hey, he is a SOONER, so what… Read more »
