Dusty Deevers nominated Jared Moore with a fiery nomination speech that ran long. Focused on social issues – homosexuality, things like that. Jared’s focus on theology, etc. He got cut off at the end at about 3:14.
John Mark Harrison nominated Bruce Frank. Focuses on his ministry as a faithful servant. Spoke of his heart for people and passion for his church, and his leadership of the ARITF, his soul-winning passion. He barely avoided the hook on his nominating speech. Quit at about 3:09 just before they gave him the hook!
Danny Forshee nominated Dr. David Allen as a scholar on fire. Love for evangelism, missions, and preaching, with character forged in fires. Focused on his service as pastor, seminary leader, and other denominational service.
He ended on a high note by ending on time!
Honestly, I still do not know who I’m going to vote for.
Chris Kendall is nominating Dan Spencer, the last entry in the field. He attempted humor, but it fell flat. He focused on Dan’s love for the SBC and his desire for unity. Track record for CP giving. Gives 9% to CP. 7.8 Million to Lottie Moon. “Dan is the right man.”
May have been our best speech yet, but Craig Culbreath is taking a LOT of heat – good-natured, but heat nonetheless.
Victor Chayasirisabohn is nominating Mike Keabone. Very enthusiastic. Kinda wish Victor was running! (Soon, maybe?) Lauding Mike as a bridge-builder and a man who brings unity. Wisdom, strength, courage. Celebrates the good in our convention. Mike is a Comanche but identifies with Southern Baptists. This is a good speech, in my opinion.
Last but not least is Chris Justice nominating Clint Pressley. Conviction. Courage. Cooperation. Loves the Convention. Alliteration is always a plus! Chris is really putting a lot of “c” words in this speech. Recounting convention service and service to other pastors. Gave a personal testimony about Clint’s ministry to him – nice touch.
Now, we vote.
I am not much of a gambler, but I’m willing to bet there’s at least ONE runoff, maybe two.
