SBC PC: Pray for David Choi

May 30, 2017 by Adam Blosser

It’s hard to believe that the SBC Pastors’ Conference is less than two weeks away.  I hope you are planning to join us in Phoenix, Arizona June 11-12.  We have 12 preachers from 12 average-sized Southern Baptist Churches who will be lifting up the name of Jesus as they preach expositionally through the book of Philippians.  Including today, we have only 12 days left before the conference.  So I will be posting a call to pray for one speaker each day from now until the day of the conference.  I hope you will take a moment each day to pray for these men as they finish up their sermon preparations.

David Choi will be the first preacher on Sunday night.  He will be preaching Philippians 1:1-11.  David is the Lead Pastor of Church of the Beloved in Chicago.  He is an excellent communicator of the Word of God, and we are excited to hear from him as he opens the 2017 SBC Pastors’ Conference.

Perhaps reading through the text of Philippians 1:1-11 will help you as you pray.  The text below is from the new Christian Standard Bible published by Holman Bible Publishers.  The preachers at the conference will be preaching from the CSB.

1 Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus: To all the saints in Christ Jesus who are in Philippi, including the overseers and deacons. 2 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 3 I give thanks to my God for every remembrance of you, 4 always praying with joy for all of you in my every prayer, 5 because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now. 6 I am sure of this, that he who started a good work in you will carry it on to completionuntil the day of Christ Jesus. 7 Indeed, it is right for me to think this way about all of you, because I have you in my heart, and you are all partners with me in grace, both in my imprisonment and in the defenseand confirmation of the gospel. 8 For God is my witness, how deeply I miss all of you with the affection of Christ Jesus. 9 And I pray this: that your love will keep on growing in knowledge and every kind of discernment, 10 so that you may approve the things that are superiorand may be pure and blameless in the day of Christ, 11 filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ to the glory and praise of God.

This video that was recorded at SWBTS and was previously published here at SBC Voices may also help you as you pray.  David shares some ways that we can be praying for him at the end of the video.

Thank you for praying!  We hope to see you in Phoenix!
