It’s hard to believe that the SBC Pastors’ Conference is only a week away. I hope you are planning to join us in Phoenix, Arizona June 11-12. We have 12 preachers from 12 average-sized Southern Baptist Churches who will be lifting up the name of Jesus as they preach expositionally through the book of Philippians. Including today, we have only 8 days left before the conference. So I will be posting a call to pray for one speaker each day until the day of the conference. I hope you will take a moment each day to pray for these men as they finish up their sermon preparations.
Nathan Rose will be the fifth preacher for the conference. He will be preaching Philippians 2:5-11. Nathan is the Senior Pastor of Liberty Baptist Church in Liberty, MO. He is an excellent preacher of the Word of God, and we are excited to hear from him as he preaches the Christ Hymn in Philippians 2.
Perhaps reading through the text of Philippians 2:5-11 will help you as you pray. The text below is from the new Christian Standard Bible published by Holman Bible Publishers. The preachers at the conference will be preaching from the CSB.
5 Adopt the same attitude as that of Christ Jesus,
6 who, existing in the form of God,
did not consider equality with God
as something to be exploited.
7 Instead he emptied himself
by assuming the form of a servant,
taking on the likeness of humanity.
And when he had come as a man,
8 he humbled himself by becoming obedient
to the point of death—
even to death on a cross.
9 For this reason God highly exalted him
and gave him the name
that is above every name,
10 so that at the name of Jesus
every knee will bow—
in heaven and on earth
and under the earth—
11 and every tongue will confess
that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.
This video that was recorded at SWBTS and was previously published here at SBC Voices may also help you as you pray. Nathan shares some ways that we can be praying for him at the end of the video.
