With Dave’s departure for the island nation of Taiwan, I have been left to man the fort and keep posts posted and comments commented, or something like that. I have asked for help from all of our contributors in continuing to bring you some of the finest content we can produce, since I don’t tend to write as many posts as Dave does. To that end, I am going to try and write a little more myself in the next couple of weeks and lean on the expertise of our crack staff. And if anyone tries to take advantage of the deputy, I fully intend to “nip it in the bud.”
Lastly, while the deputy is on-duty, you can direct all complaints to my email:
jeffmusgraveisajerk@hotmail.com
Yes, it is a working address.
Roger, wilco!
Jeff:
What happened to the post about NAMB that was up and active within the last 24 hours? Why did it disappear?
Tom,
I think the deputy has directed that question to the office of PIO and they will get back to you in due time. In the mean time try the straw man bogey man kick off Dinner at sbctoday, they are serving the current batch of lets roast a calvinist.
John K:
I wonder how long it will take those that have Dinner at sbctoday to tire of the menu of only 1 item. But you are right the food is only cooked one way–roasted. Smiley face.
I actually have no idea as that was probably Dave’s doing if it has gone missing. I am not going to override any of the sheriff’s previous decisions without talking to him first, so I will see what I can find out.
Jeff:
It is just very rare for a post to go up at SBC voices and then within 24 hours it disappears. Maybe Dr. Rick Patrick can answer my question as it was his post.
Yeah, I never even saw the post in the first place as I wasn’t on the site much in the last few days. I sent Dave an email, but I don’t know what his ability to respond will be as he seemed to be scrambling to get ready to leave from the last time I heard from him.
I saw it but I do not know about its sudden departure. Might have to see if Rick knows since it was his post or wait for the return of the Dave. I know that it was asking a few questions of NAMB, and then NAMB’s VP of Communications dropped by the comment thread and answered those questions. Perhaps at that point either the author or the editor pulled the whole thing.
Of course, that means we’ll spend 2 weeks being accused of covering up something, but such is life. We’re going to do something wrong, might as well get it out of the way.
From what I can gather, the post was indeed pulled by the author. If the questions were answered then he may have felt it was no longer needed. Rick is the only one who can answer that though.
Is that Deputy Fife a Calvinist?
He must be non-Calvinist with his classic line, “Nip it in the bud.” Which means to stop something form blooming, like a TULIP.
Doug:
You said:”I saw it but I do not know about its sudden departure. Might have to see if Rick knows since it was his post or wait for the return of the Dave. So that it is clear I am not accusing anyone of a coverup. I just never remember a post at SBCVoices basically being deleted after getting approximately 50 comments.
It just seems very odd.
Sorry Tom, not accused by you—but the accusations were flying a few other places about us covering up or squelching questions.
Should have made clear that you were just asking, which is perfectly legitimate.
The post was updated with this statement and then disappeared:
Although unclear from the original Baptist Press release, according to Mike Ebert, Vice President of NAMB Communications: “We are in the process of transitioning what used to be the Nehemiah role to a new ‘Church Planter Mobilization’ role. Each seminary has a position for this. The only reason we wrote something about Aaron Harvie is that he is going to be transitioning to this role from an outside position, rather than transitioning from a Nehemiah role like the others. But–again to clarify–all of our SBC seminaries will have a position like this.”
While the Baptist Press article left the impression that this was a new initiative only at Southern, it is now clear that all of our seminaries will continue to have such positions, and that all of them will be renamed from the earlier Nehemiah Project to the new Church Planter Mobilization terminology. I am grateful to Mike Ebert for reporting this information. I am even more delighted to know that NAMB is not favoring one of our seminaries over another, although if it ever decides to do so, I have now compiled a fairly substantial list of people who stand ready to defend such a practice as completely acceptable.
My sincerest apologies to all for failing to interpret properly the shift of personnel from the Nehemiah Project to the Church Planter Mobilization effort. In fairness, I am clearly not the only one who was misinformed, but I did ask the question, and we did receive an answer. Thanks again, Mike, for clearing everything up. – RP
Perhaps Rick requested it to be taken off. I’ve no clue.
Mike,
Thanks for that info. I think it is correct to surmise that the post’s removal came at the discretion of Rick since the issue was cleared up to his satisfaction.
Hey, Jeff: I tried to click on the Review of David Dockery’s book, and found that it will not allow me to get the review with the comments. So as a result I cannot comment. What is the problem?
I don’t think the problem is on the site as someone else just commented there after you posted this comment here and I can look at the post just fine as well.
I appreciate learning about the resolution of Rick’s question on NAMB.
William:
Rick did the right thing, but I wonder if the person who wrote the “excellent” article questioning NAMB has apologized for so quickly jumping the gun and writing such a critical article.
I am confident the answer is no.
