SBC Life, Winter 2015
Cooperative Program Allocation Budget, Oct 1, 2014 – Sep 30, 2015 (in millions of dollars)
(this shows the CP gifts received by the Executive Committee, not total CP received by the states; as most of us know, state conventions keep about 62% of CP gifts given by churches)
1. Alabama 17.4
2. Georgia 16.5
3. SBC Texas 15.7
4. Tennessee 14.3
5. Florida 11.9
6. Mississippi 11.7
7. South Carolina 11.4
8. BGC Texas 10.8
9. North Carolina 10.7
10. Oklahoma 10.2
Georgia would easily be on top but we keep more of the CP dollar in-state. No surprise, but the old-line, legacy state conventions account for 90% or so of all CP gifts received by the Executive Committee.
Texas is a monster. 26 when you combine the totals of the two state conventions. Impressive for SBCT being #3 when that’s considered.
Combining the two Virginia convention totals would get our state in the top ten, I believe.
Either way, praise God for all the faithful & sacrificial giving all around.
I’m not sure why but Virginia, even with the two combined, is the weakest of all the old line southern states. It wouldn’t make the top ten…not even close.
Closer to the looming liberal front.
First domino to fall probably.
Because the SBCV is less than 1/2 the size of “the old line southern state conventions” and the BGAV, corporately, and when all is said and done, only gives 10% of all monies collected to the CP (and very likely truth be told it’s not even consider itself a Southern Baptist state convention). So, comparing “Virginia” – whether the SBCV or even combining them with the BGAV , to old line conventions is not apples to apples.
The question was about both VA conventions combined. AR, LA, and MO are smaller in membership and give more. AR and LA much more. Per member, SBCV is more in line with the others but a new state convention without all the legacy institutions ought, one would think, be a much stronger supporter of SBC entities.
I’ll do a ‘per member’ CP list sometime in January.
the BGAV has large Numbers of churches that give very small amounts if any to the southern baptist convention and give large amounts to the CBF fellowship or to the state convention itself.
Combining the VA state conventions in your story is not apples to apples unless those states you mentioned (AR, LA, MO) the have a large number of churches in their membership to give zilch to the Southern Baptist convention CP like the BGAV does.
Relax, Dave. I didn’t combine the two va conventions in my article because neither made the top ten…weren’t even close. I did in response to a commenter.
When I list the top ten state conventions in CP contributions to the XComm per member, you can either brag or slink off to sulk in silence. As I recall, your church is exemplary and far above average and that’s what counts the most.
Have a happy new year.
“Slink off to sulk in silence” not the Tarheel we all know and love, not going to happen.
Just a little New Year’s cheer for my old friend. I would have added a smilie but am trying to finish the year in a characteristically curmudgeonly way.
