I highly recommend Jay Adkins as First Vice President of the SBC.
I was unaware that my friend Jay now has competition for the position. I do not know the other candidate and have no reason to think or say anything negative about him, but I do know Jay and i believe that the messengers would do well to elect Jay Adkins as their 1VP.
Jay labors at FirstWego, here in New Orleans, in the heart of a difficult culture, a true mission field, and he embraces his ministry with joy, passion, and conviction. Ask the local DOM about Jay. He will tell you the kind of man, the kind of pastor he is.
Jay is unapologetically Southern Baptist, perhaps not an old school traditionalist – can you be in New Orleans? – but he is Southern Baptist through and through. He has served well as a Trustee for Baptist entitees and has led the local preparations for this convention, putting heart and soul into the efforts. His father is an SBC pastor and his sons are serving in youth music ministry – a godly family. He is a faithful, biblical, BF&M-true blue, Christ-honoring man, the kind the SBC needs going forward.
I have been impressed through the years with his courage as well. He is a man of the highest integrity and will not compromise when he sees something he believes is wrong. He loves peace and unity but is willing to stand when a stand is needed.
I love Jay Adkins and his family but you shouldn’t vote for him because he is my friend. He has served Southern Baptists and our Lord well for many years and I believe he would make everyone glad who voted for him.
I highly recommend Jay Adkins as First Vice President of the Southern Baptist Convention.
