2018 Pastor’s Conference Lineup Announced

February 20, 2018 by Adam

Last May I expressed my excitement on this blog that H.B. Charles would be nominated to serve as the President of the 2018 SBC Pastor's Conference.  Then at the annual meeting in Phoenix last year, Pastor Charles was unanimously elected to serve as the first African American president of the SBC Pastor's Conference.  I have been looking forward to the conference, and last week the lineup of speakers was announced on Pastor Charles' blog. The Speakers for the 2018 SBC Pastor’s Conference Bryan Carter | Concord Church | Dallas, Texas Charlie Dates | Progressive Baptist Church | Chicago, … [Read more...] about 2018 Pastor’s Conference Lineup Announced

The New Progressive Agenda

February 2, 2018 by Adam

You may have heard that some among our Southern Baptist Convention are intent on bearing false witness against Russell Moore and the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission.  Dr. Moore is accused of pushing a progressive agenda at the ERLC.  He must be stopped, it is argued. Well, the ERLC has just released their 2018 Legislative Agenda.  If this is the new progressive agenda, then sign me up!  I am hoping that someone with contacts to Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi can pass it along to them so they will know what things to work toward in 2018.  I'm not sure they know that they are supposed … [Read more...] about The New Progressive Agenda

The March for Life: Some Brief Reflections

January 25, 2018 by Adam

My article yesterday gave some brief reflections on the Evangelicals for Life Conference that took place last week in Washington, DC.  As is true each year, the conference was held on the days surrounding the annual March for Life. The schedule is cleared during the afternoon on the Friday of the March, and conference participants are encouraged to participate in the March.  I enjoyed my first March for Life and hope to be able to participate again in the future.  Below are a few brief reflections. 1. I was impressed by the size of the crowd. This was my first March for Life, so I didn't … [Read more...] about The March for Life: Some Brief Reflections

Evangelicals for Life: Some Brief Reflections

January 24, 2018 by Adam

I had the privilege of attending the Evangelicals for Life Conference in Washington, DC last week.  The conference was put on by Focus on the Family and our own Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission.  The conference is a relatively new annual conference that is held each year on the days surrounding the annual March for Life.  I was challenged and encouraged by the conference and hope to be able to attend again in the future.  Below are a few brief observations from #EFL2018. 1. Progress is being made in the fight against abortion. No, Roe vs. Wade has not been overturned.  Abortion is … [Read more...] about Evangelicals for Life: Some Brief Reflections

Andy Savage, Sexual Assault, and the Church

January 10, 2018 by Adam

Let’s keep talking about sexual assault.  We must.  The problem is pervasive.  It is not just Hollywood.  It is not just Washington, DC.  It’s the church too.  Hence the #churchtoo hashtag on Twitter.  While I maintain my point from my article on Monday, that only the church has the answer to a culture that lacks any concept of sexual morality, the reality is that the church has far too often been part of the problem. I had never heard of Andy Savage until late last week when Jules Woodson came forward and I began to see links to her story on Twitter.  I read in horror.  Ms. Woodson was … [Read more...] about Andy Savage, Sexual Assault, and the Church

Hollywood, Sexual Assault, and Last Night’s Golden Globes

January 8, 2018 by Adam

Last night was the Golden Globe Awards.  I am of all men the least qualified to opine on the worthiness of the winners.  I have no list of losers who were robbed.  I don't even know who the winners and losers were.  I haven't looked.  Truth be told, as I scanned the nominees for the various categories, I recognized very few of the names and have not seen the vast majority of the movies.  My wife loves moves.  Me?  Not so much.  The movie better have a great story line with lots of drama and suspense if it is going to maintain my attention past an hour and a half.  I find that most movies are … [Read more...] about Hollywood, Sexual Assault, and Last Night’s Golden Globes

It’s Just Not Safe – Reflections on the Massacre in Sutherland Springs

November 6, 2017 by Adam

It's just not safe.  Those are the words I recently heard from a man I invited to church.  We were hosting our Fall Festival at a central location in the community.  As I went around talking with families and inviting them to church, some expressed interest in coming.  Others said that they already have a church.  Still others came up with some other reason why they would not be able to come. But one response caught me off guard.  The man was a veteran.  And based on our brief conversation, it seemed clear that he was dealing with some emotional and psychological issues resulting from his … [Read more...] about It’s Just Not Safe – Reflections on the Massacre in Sutherland Springs

With whom will you pray?

July 27, 2017 by Adam

There was a lot of discussion on social media about a prayer gathering that took place in the Oval Office recently.  Several evangelical leaders were present---including Southern Baptists Ronnie Floyd, Jack Graham, Robert Jeffress, Richard Land, Frank Page, and others.  Ronnie Floyd was one of two pastors who voiced a prayer as the rest of the group laid hands on President Trump.  Jack Graham did an interview on Fox News talking about the gathering.  Baptist Press had an article about it. As you might imagine, reactions to photos and statements released after the time of prayer have been … [Read more...] about With whom will you pray?
