We share our opinions and insights at SBC Voices, but we believe that the Voice that matters most is the one that comes from God's Word. We present these daily expositional devotions, beginning with a tour of Ephesians called, "Walk Worthy," in hopes of encouraging our readers to remember to Voice above every voice. Passage Children, obey your parents in the Lord, because this is right. Honor your father and mother—which is the first commandment with a promise—that it may go well with you and that you may have a long life in the land. And fathers, don’t stir up anger in your … [Read more...] about Parents and Children (Ephesians 6:1-4): From the Voice that Matters Most
Putting On New – Ephesians 4:25-32 (From the Voice that Matters Most)
We share our opinions and insights at SBC Voices, but we believe that the Voice that matters most is the one that comes from God's Word. We present these daily expositional devotions, beginning with a tour of Ephesians called, "Walk Worthy," in hopes of encouraging our readers to remember to Voice above every voice. Passage: Therefore, putting away lying, speak the truth, each one to his neighbor, because we are members of one another. Be angry and do not sin. Don’t let the sun go down on your anger, and don’t give the devil an opportunity. Let the thief no longer steal. Instead, he … [Read more...] about Putting On New – Ephesians 4:25-32 (From the Voice that Matters Most)
Ephesians 2–an overview
I opened my bible for devotion this morning and it fell to Isaiah 12. I normally have a plan for my devotion time, and it doesn’t typically involve letting the pages fall where they may. This morning, however, I decided to just read and meditate on the first passage I saw. Isaiah 12 reads, “On that day you will say: ‘I will give thanks to the You, Lord, although You were angry with me. Your anger has turned away, and You have comforted me. Indeed, God is my salvation; I will trust Him and not be afraid, for the Lord, the Lord Himself, is my strength and my song. He has become my … [Read more...] about Ephesians 2–an overview
Some Observations on Religious Freedom
The United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) released it's annual report on April 18th. If you're interested, you can read the full version here, or the abridged version here. If you're unfamiliar with the work of USCIRF, they are responsible for monitoring the conditions of religious freedom around the globe and submitting reports to the White House, and to the Senate. They also lobby for legislation and other political action related to global religious freedom. In the style of fellow voices contributor William Thornton, I am going to offer my observations of … [Read more...] about Some Observations on Religious Freedom
How we can achieve ethnic diversity in SBC leadership
The report from the SBC nominating committee was released last week, and like many of you, I was bumfuzzled. I’m not sure that’s a real word, but that’s how I felt. If you weren’t paying attention last week, you can read the report here. Thankfully, Dave Miller brought some clarification to the report in his post last week. We all breathed a collective sigh of relief. There will be more minority representation in our decision making bodies. There is, however, a question that has lingered in my mind over the weekend. How do we achieve diversity without resorting to affirmative action? … [Read more...] about How we can achieve ethnic diversity in SBC leadership

We share our opinions and insights at SBC Voices, but we believe that the Voice that matters most is the one that comes from God's Word. We present these daily expositional devotions, beginning with a tour of Ephesians called, "Walk Worthy," in hopes of encouraging our readers to remember to listen to the Voice above every voice. Passage: In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace 8 that he richly poured out on us with all wisdom and understanding. 9 He made known to us the mystery of his will, according to his … [Read more...] about From the Voice that Matters Most: Ephesians 1:7-10 – The Lavishing Love of Our Lord
Jacob Deshazer and Hebrews 11
Wednesday, April 18, will mark the 76th anniversary of the famed Doolittle raid over Japan. I love reading and learning about the Dolittle raiders. They faced impossible odds which became even more impossible as they were forced to launch their surprise raid hundreds of miles before the intended launch point. The raiders each have their individual stories, and there’s one raider I learned about this week who had a unique and fruitful life after World War II. Staff sergeant Jacob Deshazer was the bombardier of the last Mitchell B-25 to lift off the carrier deck of the USS Hornet that … [Read more...] about Jacob Deshazer and Hebrews 11
