Lots of Positive Buzz Surrounding 2017 SBC Pastors’ Conference

Has there ever been an SBC Pastor’s Conference with more positive buzz surrounding it than this year’s conference?  We all know that the Pastor’s Conference was once an important tool used by the leaders of the Conservative Resurgence to rally the troops to elect conservative SBC presidents and return the convention to biblical orthodoxy.  We remember how the 2010 conference focused on the Great Commission Resurgence and was perhaps influential in that way.  But usually the Pastor’s Conference is somewhat of an afterthought when it comes to the annual meeting. SBCPC Scholarship Recipients (Round 2)

We're glad today to announce the second and final round of recipients for the 2017 SBC Pastors' Conference Scholarship. Round two includes 30 pastors and church planters who will, along with 30 in the first round, receive $1,000 for travel and other expenses to attend all sessions of the SBC Pastors' Conference and SBC Annual Meeting. As before, these recipients pastor average-sized SBC churches and wouldn't be able to attend without these scholarship funds.  About 30% of our applicants are church planters. This year’s SBC Pastor’s Conference is June 11-12 in Phoenix, Arizona.  The conference will feature 12 preachers who all come from average-size SBC churches.  They will be preaching through the book of Philippians over the course of the two day conference. As you know, the speakers for the conference met at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary for a colloquium back in February.  The speakers gathered to get to know one another and study Philippians with Dr. David Allen and other preaching faculty members from SWBTS and NOBTS. Congratulations to the following recipients of the 2017 SBC Pastors' Conference Scholarship. Each of these 30 recipients will receive $1,000 for travel and other expenses to attend all sessions of the SBC Pastors' Conference and SBC Annual Meeting. 2017 SBC Pastor’s Conference: Is this what the SBC is supposed to look like?

I like the concept and execution of the 2017 SBC Pastor's Conference and plan to be present for some of it, probably the Monday sessions. My question is this: Is the 2017 PC the best expression of what the Southern Baptist Convention is supposed to look like? Not in a racial or demographic look but in the following ways: It has been called a "collaborative" effort and is therefore a cooperative effort. Dave Miller may have been elected president but he has been clear from the outset that the conference is the work of a number of people besides himself. When I was elected president of the Pastors' Conference, the first thing I was told was that I could not do the job. The man who told me that was absolutely right.
