On a blog like this, we tend to be self-critical to a fault. But behind all our talk about making the SBC better is an unspoken assumption - we still love our denomination and especially its people. So, this post is my attempt at penance for all the nasty things I've every thought about being the SBC. Feel free to add to the list in the comments, just be nice or I'll ban you for life. Why I Love The SBC The Gospel always has, and always will be the main thing. We can point fingers at ourselves. We are not afraid to offer public repentance. We trust the … [Read more...] about 65 Reasons Why I Love The Southern Baptist Convention – Really!

Death By Nostalgia And The SBC
I've heard from several readers who are just discovering that iMonk is a long time (and current) Southern Baptist. Even more are surprised that he is making a solid run in our SBC blog contest. So, if you need just one more post to prove his credentials as an SBC blogger, I think he just published it. Avoiding Death by Nostalgia: My Denomination (The SBC) Today “Death by Nostalgia” is wishing the world was like it was in the 1970’s and we could just assume that we were right . . . We’ve become functionally unevangelistic in many places because our past methodologies- door to door … [Read more...] about Death By Nostalgia And The SBC
Christian Courtship & Helping Teens To Learn From Our Sin
My husband and I were both Christians when we became involved with each other but our life did not bear the fruit of it in many ways. We broke up, but then I found out I was pregnant. My now sister in law told him I was pregnant (because I refused to) and after a few weeks of fighting about it we were married. I loved Mike very much but I knew he had cold feet for a reason. I didn't want him to feel like he had to marry me, but I also didn't want to feel like I was second choice either. Nearly 18 years later, we are both the wiser and each of us have a deep and intimate relationship with … [Read more...] about Christian Courtship & Helping Teens To Learn From Our Sin
Christian Devotions Online
I just wanted to plug a new wesbite I'm developing. It's basically an aggregator for daily bible devotions pulled from various RSS feeds. Going forward I might add some writers and give it a go as a blog too, but for now I'm just letting it build up some traffic. Check it out and give me suggestions. … [Read more...] about Christian Devotions Online
SBC: In Need of Direction
There have been numerous posts recently from different SBC personalities about the visions competing for the future of the Southern Baptist Convention. In my opinion, the debate has gotten nasty and defaming to Christ. People have differing opinions on what these visions are and how many different visions exist. There is the Baptist Identity vision, the Founders vision(GCR), the cooperationists vision, and in my opinion there is the common man vision.(there are more visions, but I will leave it at those) I am a common man. I want what is best for the Southern Baptist Convention. I am … [Read more...] about SBC: In Need of Direction
Urgent Call For Prayer: Ignore At Your Own Risk
Considering our economic trouble, shrinking churches, and loss of political influence - now is the time for prayer. The Southern Baptist Commission For National Revival (SBCNR) has issued the following prayer. All Southern Baptists Churches are encouraged to read this prayer aloud at 11:10 AM EST on Sunday 15 March 2009. This national harmony of prayer will certainly turn back the tide of judgement now threatening our nation. You can download a PDF bulletin insert from the SBCNR website. SBC Prayer For National Revival Lord, we thank you that we are not like other … [Read more...] about Urgent Call For Prayer: Ignore At Your Own Risk
SBC Bloggers On Social Media
When it comes to Twitter & Facebook I'm lazy - or may be just cautious of using my time - or maybe just "stuck up." In any case, this post is to promote your alternate internet identity. So, if you Facebook, Twitter, Webkinz, Second Life or whatever - use the comments below to make some friends. You can also talk about who you follow on Twitter besides EdStetzer. I'm TonyKummer on twitter and shy on Facebook. … [Read more...] about SBC Bloggers On Social Media
ARE YOU A COOPERATING SOUTHERN BAPTIST?
What is cooperation? My online dictionary says cooperation means: "1: the action of cooperating; common effort. 2: association of persons for common benefit." It's kinda like my granddaughters' cheerleading dance presentations. Each girl has her own personality. Each has her own height, weight, and abilty to perform the cheer in a fluid motion of unity. They cooperate in making this occur with a common effort to achieve one voice to benefit the whole. If one girl decides she'd rather dance to a different song and when the music begins, she dances to a song in her own head, she is not … [Read more...] about ARE YOU A COOPERATING SOUTHERN BAPTIST?
