Our Fat Pastor, Fit Pastor challenge has only two months left. A group of pastors and other readers of SBC Voices joined together to challenge and encourage one another in this weight loss challenge.
At the end of every month, we check-in and give progress reports.
So, how are you guys doing? Making progress? Having struggles? There are still almost 2 months to make progress. Of course, it is the toughest time to make a change – the dreaded holiday season. Halloween Candy. Thanksgiving feasts (and leftovers). Christmas (no more need be said). But with the self-control built into us by the Holy Spirit, we can continue to make progress.
My report: I’ve not weighed myself, so I’m not sure. But I’ve been getting back into a more regular exercise routine, which should pay off here in the near future. I was doing better until I bought some Halloween candy – that stuff is EVIL! But October has been a decent month for me.
How about you?
My total loss is 15 pounds. I’d still like to lose another 10-15.
Well done, sir.
Down 5% off original body weight. Total goal is 10%.
And you, too, sir.
I was doing great, but then I had to travel to the US. Do you have any idea how many calories are in my favorite foods there? Good grief.
yep.
I am down to 255 from 273. Want to get to 235. I had already dropped 20.
good job.
Still on track. I had upgraded my exercise from walking to running, having worked my way up to the three mile mark, but shin splints have forced a hiatus and have resorted to the elliptical for the meantime (boring).
Started this journey on Sept. 4th at 246 lbs, weighed in this morning at 219 lbs.
I have to confess, I did enjoy some candy corn M&Ms on Halloween (those things are awesome!) but that stuff is gone so no temptation. LOL
Candy Corn M&Ms? Why corrupt something good like M&Ms with something nasty like candy corn?
I am having some troubles with a sometimes gimpy left knee. I have run and walked even at my extreme weight. I am afraid the wear and tear might be getting to me.
Don’t push it!
Out of brotherly love, I will ignore you candy corn comment Dave… 😉
I think my lower leg pain was contributed to by my weight…. too much too soon. When I get to the point I can return to running, I am going to build up a little more gradually and hopefully prevent any future injury. Things of that nature can be a major setback when you’re trying to drop pounds.
Glad to see others on here still dropping! Great job guys!
Has everyone used a combination of diet & exercise? Some just diet? Some just exercise? What kind of exercise routine are you using? What kind of foods are you eating/avoiding?
Not doing well! Down a little over 10 pounds.
Down a total of 20 since I started and down 15 (I think) since the first post here. That gives me a 9% loss.
Okay… I have gained weight since starting this challenge… though having a month were I was unable to do exercise b/c of my back and arm being dinged up didn’t help…
🙁
225 last I checked, up from the 220.
I didn’t enter the challenge, but started a weight loss program (with my wife) on May 1. Started at 233, now at 180 for a total of 53. Five more to go to be at target weight. My wife is down 56, 12 more to go.
Started at 403, weighed yesterday morning at 394. I am very displeased with not having lost a lot more. As long as I am at home in Arlington, I tend to lose weight. As soon as I travel, I start gaining weight. My travel schedule the past 3 months have been much busier than usual. Starting this past weekend, I’m preaching in 3 different states and four cities over the next 5 days. I am posting this from Little Rock, Ar., where I will be lecturing at Arkansas Baptist College the next 3 days. I will be addressing a Men’s Conference over the weekend in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. Preached in Milwaukee last weekend. Fly back late Saturday Night to preach in Fort Worth Sunday Morning at a guess church. I am known for my hearty appetite, therefore at all of these locations, my hosts are expecting me to pig out. They usually have made special provisions for me to do so. I need help. I purchased a portable digital scale to travel with, so that I can monitor my weight while away. I also brought workout clothes. Please pray that I will be strong, resist the temptation to overeat, and failure to excersize. I will be so disappointed if I return from this trip, having regained the 9lbs that I lost from the start of this journey. Brothers, I seriously need your prayers.
I will be praying for your brother. I’m proud of you for losing the 9 lbs, that’s no small feat. I need to get on the wagon myself.
John,
Thanks.
Praying for you as well.
And glad to have you back in the state.
