Not gone unnoticed: The complementarianismness mess, CaringWell/abuse, hanging around past your shelf life…and bacon, brethren.

October 25, 2019 by William Thornton

I’m in therapy having worn out my facial musculature, exhausted by SBC events. Used to be that regular SBC news caused a single eyebrow to be raised and I could alternate between the two of mine. Now the demand is always for both. To wit:

May I, ahem!, tout my own humble stuff on complementarianism? That is, the definitive, succinct, 319 word piece that declared “complementarianism” not to be worth diddly-squat any more. Southern Baptists love adjectives and thus will flood the comp market with them: hard, soft, broad, narrow, traditional, etc. Is this the hill we want to die on?

The advocacy for abuse victims is not based on potential monetary gain. I’m satisfied as to the righteous motives of the most visible and active of the loose confederation of victims of abuse, and their advocates, in SBC churches and related institutions. Now I’m reading not just that “the SBC” should help and assist victims, should provide resources for victims but that there should be a consideration of “reparations.” The term is meant to get attention and it usually does regardless of the context. I would offer that regardless of how hard and how loud the voices are that declare “the SBC” to be just like the Roman Catholic church, the two are completely different. I would point you to the only proposal that involves monetary support for victims. Part of the proposal by professors Whitfield and Yarnell is that “the Southern Baptist Convention, through the Executive Committee, should develop a fund to help when the resources of a church are not sufficient or when a church fails to provide reasonable support to a survivor.” This is a serious proposal. I have not seen our current leadership address anything like this. Maybe later. Talk to us.

You are aware of the current crisis in our nation? No, not impeachment but the staggering stockpile of pork bellies now in refrigerated warehouses around the nation. That’s bacon, brethren and sistren, and it’s going to waste. I call upon Donald Trump to release the strategic stockpile of pork bellies to make America happy again. It’s a disgrace.

Speaking of shelf life. It’s not good to hang around after your shelf life has obviously ended. Two words here: John MacArthur. Ride your Harley, bro, and enjoy life.

…and what did Adam Greenway do with the dog that was buried on the SWBTS campus? Same place as the windows?

I’m for the Nats. Need some feelgood news out of DC.
