Randy Covington has been an IMB missionary for 22 years and the Alaska convention leader for about eight. He is our kind of Christian and denominational servant. It’s insanity that we punish and lose people like this.
Alaska Baptist leader resigns, BNG
The details involve a woman preschool and children “pastor,” about which I wrote earlier.
Randy Covington did nothing wrong, said nothing wrong, although he might could have explained it better. For crying out loud, he had already set his retirement for a few months later. No reason to resign early to satisfy anyone. Explain the earlier remarks, serve out your time, and have a celebration.
If you want to gauge the spiritual temperature of the SBC right now, hold up a picture of a woman where the caption reads “pastor.” She might be the pastor of diaper-changing, have no churchwide responsibilities, is not ordained, is not an elder, is not an overseer and is a longsuffering, always-faithful follower and servant of Christ. No matter that the CP is in a shambles with an accelerated decline based, I speculate, partly on the Executive Committee’s cutting mission spending by $3 million to pay legal bill from the convention’s earlier stupidity. No matter that membership is in an accelerated decline as well. This is idiocy but we have a long record of experience at it.
Go after the leader of one of our smallest state organizations. Beautiful.
By heaven or hell, we will have a pure convention if it kills us.

Never met Randy Covington and a few years ago I roundly criticized the ABRN for a dumb CP decision that had to do with NAMB.
Wait for the zombie constitutional amendment. It’s already digging out from its earlier burial and the stench is going to be overwhelming.
