Resolutions don’t appear to be very contoversial.
Res. 4 On Racial Reconciliation Looks good.
No racists opposed it!
Res 5. Marriage. Straightforward.
K. Ross opposes the resolution because it represents a weaker form of warfare. The church is to share the gospel. (He doesn’t seem to have read the resolution.)
The committee responds and asks that we adopt the resolution.
(Note – I get personally get annoyed with the “we prayed about it” response as if that should sway the day. I’m glad they prayed and took their job seriously but the fact that they prayed about it doesn’t mean i can’t disagree with it.)
res 6 – Sanctity of human life.
res 7 – pornography and sexual purity
res 8 – persecuted church
Amendment about giving thanks for religious freedom. Not sure what it has to do with the the amendment. Received as a friendly amendment and passed.
Another wordsmithing amendment received as friendly and passed.
res 9 – Persecution and human rights violations in North Korea
All the resolutions passed.
Note: some of the fun of the of the convention is gone now that we no longer offer resolutions at the convention. Listening to people list their resolution topics was really fun. Now, we just get the finished product. Plus, since the committee has more time to wordsmith and work things out, their is less controversy over the finished product.
I am with you Dave on the “we prayed about it” being used to silence any disagreement.
It has been my experience over the years that when the line, “We prayed about it…” is used, then the group being told that ought to be a little more Berean about what is being pushed.
I think it might be more congregationalist than Berean but the sentiment is noteworthy…
