As we could have expected, Bart Barber and the Resolutions Committee did a great job of bringing forward solid, biblical resolutions that express our united view as Southern Baptists.
If you look at some of the rejected resolutions, it is clear that some are weaponizing the process to force the SBC to adopt their narrow views on controversial issues.
Southern Baptists are united in our opposition to abortion. There is a resolution expressing that. It unifies us as a pro-life convention.
Under that pro-life umbrella, we differ on strategy. Resolutions that seek to politicize and weaponize the process to force the SBC to take stands that are not held by a wide majority do more harm than good.
The resolution that seeks to impose criminal penalties on women who seek abortions is a view many hold. Many think that is not good strategy.
It is damaging to the fellowship of the body when views only a segment of the convention holds is forced as the view of the entire convention.
I urge the messengers to adopt the Resolutions committee resolution and to defeat ANY attempt to bring the divisive resolution out to the floor.
