Rosaria is an ex-Lesbian who was part of the panel today and she was probably the most compelling speaker of the panel, though the whole group was good.
But she said something that startled me and make me think:
Dont let your words be stronger than your relationship!
What does that mean? That “calling out” and “rebuke” is meant to be done within the context of love and relationship. When we style ourselves the caretakers, the judge, jury and executioners, we often accomplish nothing but destruction.
Of course, the online world creates a lot of challenges in applying this principle. But I think the principle is true.
Rebuke in the Bible is done within the context of relationship and authority. People don’t just go around blasting one another, taking potshots and hurling insults.
Russ Moore said something else as the discussion closed.
If you don’t have some people accusing you of being judgmental and homophobic, and others of accusing you of being soft on homosexuality, you probably aren’t following Jesus.
(I don’t think he said probably.)
I apologize to pastor Bumpers, but my back cant take another minute in these chairs.
Miller out.
