Between now and when the Orlando SBC meets, my cry to God is visit us, awaken us, let thy presence overwhelm us. Let thy awesomeness utterly overwhelm the gods of the earth (Zeph.2:10,11 NKJV). Financial disaster is staring the world in the face due to the fact that there are no jobs in the future and will be none, because automation, computerization, and robotics have taken away the necessity for practically every kind of worker that has been needed. A paper I wrote in 90-91 underscored the nature of this reality coming upon us, and we are now having to… Read more »
Dr. Willingham, With all due respect, you are quite mistaken regarding technology and job losses. People have been asserting that since the wheel was invented. Add in garden tools, gas engines, cotton gins, electricity, automobiles, etc. it’s a wonder any of us have jobs according to your theory.

Dear Stan: I am very much aware of what has been said in times past about the end of the need for workers. What I did not add, and what is even worse, is that there are those who intended for such a financial collapse to come about. Suggest you read Carroll Quigley’s Tragedy and Hope and his The Anglo American Establishment, Cleon Skousen’s The Naked Capitalist (a review of Quigley’s Tragedy and Hope), C.S. I am hearing nothing about SBC 2009. I am hearing very little about the GCR. The excitement that some are talking about in seminary circles and some other denominational circles is surely not being replicated elsewhere. I see a leadership push occurring but little else.

Is there ever a lot of buzz in early October about the next year’s SBC? I would not expect it. But I know that I am planning to go, and I do attend many of these things. I don’t know if that is any indication.
In other words, I think a lot of us know this one might be pretty big, but right now, we have other concerns (like what costume am I gonna wear for trick-or-treating).

Dave, I’m not really talking about the SBC2009 per se. Matt said that this is one of the most anticipated conventions in a while. On many levels, I understand exactly what he is saying and agree. A lot of people know that a lot will take place at this convention that will determine where we are headed over the next 10-20 years. But, my hope is that a grassroots movement along the lines of the GCR (ALL of the axioms, not just the one about reorganization) will occur and that the SBC will begin to be revived with love for… Read more »
I think the masses aren’t very aware because as of now the GCR seems more like a “possibility.” No one knows of what is going to be made of the GCR.
I think after Orlando and we actually know what the GCR is and what direction it is going to take the SBC we will start seeing some grass roots movement. I sure hope so.
I am planning to go. Haven’t attended since Greensboro.

Can I go if I’m not a member of a Southern Baptist Church?
I do live in Orlando.:)

You can go, you just can’t vote.

I may have to attend. I’ve always wanted to.

I spend a lot of time at the coffee shop and book store. Manage to make it in for most of the major votes. I am awful.
