I’ve written already about the nominations expected for President, First and Second Vice President, and Recording Secretary. That leaves what may be the most interesting election of #SBC19 – for registration secretary.
Two nominees have been announced at this point. Don Currence, who has served in the role for two years after working closely for years with Jim Wells, longtime Registration Secretary will be nominated by his pastor, Phillip Burden. Currence is the administrative pastor at First Baptist Church in Ozark, MO, and has served there for 26 years.
Near the end of May, Jimmy Scroggins announced that he would also nominate Kathy Litton for the office of Registration Secretary. Litton brings an impressive resume to the table. She currently works with NAMB as director of church planter spouse development. She’s worked on the Committee on Nominations, Committee on Resolutions, and the Great Commission Task Force. Litton is known across the convention for her leadership and teaching among SBC women.
Again we have two excellent choices to serve the convention. This one is a tough choice for me. I worked on the registration committee two years ago under Don Currence. I really enjoyed working with Don and I think he did a great job there. At the same time, I think Kathy Litton’s leadership would be a huge asset to the convention, particularly at this point in the SBC’s history. When I account for all those factors, I’ve decided that I plan to vote for Kathy Litton for SBC Registration Secretary.
