I had back surgery in March and the number 1 thing I discovered with it–when you have that kind of surgery, you have plenty of time to lay around and…write. At least that’s what I did (between catching up on the Price is Right and Family Feud).
I’m much more mobile and active again now, but during my down time I wrote a chunk of a little book I had been wanting to do for my church that I’ve titled The Journey: A Guide to Spiritual Growth. I was even able to tab one of my friends to do cover art for it. It is a book with some workbook elements based on a discipleship paradigm I’ve been promoting at my church for a while: As disciples, we honor Jesus by living the truth, building community, and pursuing missions. This is based on Jesus’ prayer in John 17: truth, community, missions. With truth involving the word, prayer, and character; community involving fellowship, accountability, and praise; and missions involving living, serving, and sharing.
These are the ideas I’ve taken and rolled together in this thing.
But I want to share it with anyone who wants it or wants to read through it. You can find it at the church’s website here: http://fbcadrian.com/?attachment_id=339
It’s a .pdf file and kinda large (~1.5 meg). It’s also formatted to be printed front and back with a wider left margin for binding purposes. There’s a blank page at the very end to serve as a back cover.
I’ve also edited through it several times and had my secretary go through it, but I don’t have a professional editing team; so if anyone reads it and notices any sort of mistake, I’m always happy to hear about it so I can correct it.
I hope it’s a worthwhile venture for you.
