Fox News and Baptist Press are both reporting that the Southern Baptist Convention was the victim of an internet hoax today in which self-identified members of the “Southern Baptist Conference” announced that the EC had changed its position and would now support gay marriage.
Here is the BP Link.
Here is the Fox News Link.
The “news release” included false quotes from several SBC leaders. It might be nice in the next few weeks to be very careful about any quotes we see out there made by Baptist leaders on the subject.
No point in writing about it extensively here. Follow the links and read the story.
I’m glad the SBC is taking a clear enough stand to become a target of this kind of thing, even if it is just a few bloggers in housecoats. 🙂
Yep
Must be those silly true Conservatives. 😉
The group that did this purports to be a bunch of Christians, but it appears they forgot the part of the Bible where God says, “do not bear false witness.” I guess that isn’t surprising when you consider how much of the rest of Scripture they have to ignore to “feel good” about their beliefs.
If Brother Bart Barber is lurking, I’d love for him to confirm the rumor that he was once a part of the NoZe Brotherhood who NoZe well about these type of shenanigans!
Hi AARON,
I looked up the NoZe Brotherhood . . . a great fun college tradition for Baylor, but I don’t think they are ‘mean-spirited’, are they?
I mean, they wouldn’t have done THIS ?
?
I think that was meant as a joke.
Well, that’s good to hear, DAVID.
I kind of like a group that would (all in fun) bring a little live donkey into a school chapel assembly and leave it on stage with the speaker. TThat stunt seemed harmless enough and reminded me of ‘the blessing of the animals’ every year at my Church.
But the ‘SBC’ hoax WAS mean-spirited . . .and happened just when the SBC was moving in the direction of emphasizing badly-needed ministry to people with same-sex attraction.
I can neither confirm nor deny, but I’d love to hear what you think my NoZe name might have been!
This is like the chamber of commerce hoax…in that one they even a press conference at the national press club.
Pretty funny ……
