SBC Resolution On Praying for the Plight of Arab Christians
Guest post by K.V. Paxton, Lead Pastor at Grace Baptist Church, Quinlan, Texas. The following resolution “On Praying for the Plight of Arab Christians” will be submitted to the Resolutions Committee to be considered at this year’s annual meeting in Dallas, Texas. Allow me to share the heart behind this resolution, then you can read it for yourself. Last year at the annual meeting in Phoenix, Arizona, I submitted a resolution I titled, “On Praying for the Peace of Jerusalem”. The intention of that resolution was to bring attention to the fact that we have brothers and sisters in Christ … [Read more...] about SBC Resolution On Praying for the Plight of Arab Christians
From the Voice that Matters Most: Ephesians 1:7-14 Recap. In HIM.
We share our opinions and insights at SBC Voices, but we believe that the Voice that matters most is the one that comes from God’s Word. We present these daily expositional devotions, beginning with a tour of Ephesians called, “Walk Worthy,” in hopes of encouraging our readers to remember to Voice above every voice. Passage: Overview of Ephesians 1:7-14 - In Him 7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, 8 which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight 9 making known to us the mystery of his will, … [Read more...] about From the Voice that Matters Most: Ephesians 1:7-14 Recap. Breaking Through Blindess: The Second Commandment, Historic Racial Division, Biblical Justice, and Listening to One Another
This week, a Latino community leader in a major Southern city told me about a white Christian woman in his city who contacted him asking for someone to help clean her house. He recommended a Mexican woman to her who went to her house daily, worked and cleaned faithfully. The white Christian woman paid the Mexican woman in cash under the table to no taxes were taken out and nothing was reported. The Mexican woman was then caught in an ICE raid and was detained and sent away for deportation. The Latino community leader was heartbroken about this and worried for her family left behind. He … [Read more...] about Breaking Through Blindess: The Second Commandment, Historic Racial Division, Biblical Justice, and Listening to One Another
Why We Can’t Wait: The SBC’s Continual Need to Pursue Racial/Ethnic Diversity In Leadership
As the MLK50 Conference sponsored by the ERLC and TGC came to an end last night, I was both encouraged and discouraged. I was incredibly encouraged with what was said, the amazing people I met, the hard truths expressed, and the desire of 4000 people to bring racial healing to the church under the blood of Jesus and the Cross of Christ. But, upon reflection I was also a bit discouraged that it has taken so long to get here, and I left concerned that we would easily fall back into our centuries old pattern of “going slow” when it came to all of us coming together in sacrificial love and unity … [Read more...] about Why We Can’t Wait: The SBC’s Continual Need to Pursue Racial/Ethnic Diversity In Leadership
Good Friday at Golgotha and the Slave Market: Isaiah 53, MLK50, and Redemption
This morning, like many of us observing Good Friday, I started with a reading of Isaiah 53. But, while I've read Isaiah 53 many times before, have preached from it, and know it well as one of the primary Old Testament Messianic prophecies about the torture and crucifixion of the Messiah, as well as about his substitutionary atonement for sinners, the last part of the chapter hung around me throughout the day, coming to mind over and over. The first part of Isaiah 53 is familiar and quoted often. The last part is there and read, but we have usually already experienced the impact of the first … [Read more...] about Good Friday at Golgotha and the Slave Market: Isaiah 53, MLK50, and Redemption

Planned Parenthood Continues to Be Fully Funded by Government
A $1.3 Trillion Omnibus Spending Bill was passed late last night in the Senate after being passed in the House. It now goes to President Trump for his signature, which is expected. There is a lot to this massive spending bill, but of interest to Evangelicals will surely be the continued funding at almost $500 Million per year of Planned Parenthood, an organization that performs approximately 330,000 abortions per year. A Republican majority House, Senate, and Presidency has no impact on the half a billion dollars a year that goes to Planned Parenthood. This is the second year in a row we … [Read more...] about Planned Parenthood Continues to Be Fully Funded by Government
How Toys ‘R Us Made My Kid Hate Toy Stores, and How He Learned to Love Them Again
This past week, I went with my family on a little vacation. We drove to the North Georgia mountains and then on to North Carolina. We were in search of mountain trails, beautiful vistas, and majestic waterfalls. Our first stop was in Helen, Georgia for the afternoon and evening before we picked out our two oldest sons on a youth trip in the mountains. Helen is a German-style touristy town with a lot of neat shops and attractions. As we were walking down the street, we saw a toy store and mentioned to our 12 year old son that we should go in. "I don't want to go in a toy store. That's … [Read more...] about How Toys ‘R Us Made My Kid Hate Toy Stores, and How He Learned to Love Them Again
