We have published articles by missionaries, former missionaries, retired missionaries, missions professors, and other personnel with far more expertise than I have in international missions. They have discussed strategies and philosophies and missions approaches - interesting discussions. It is evident that there is discouragement, frustration, and confusion in our missionary force - as well as passion and resolve! Most seem to appreciate Dr. David Platt's desire to put the IMB back on solid financial footing but also were confused by some of the management strategies and reorganizational … [Read more...] about The IMB’s Biggest Problem
Brad Jurkovich Interviews SBC Presidential Candidate J.D. Greear
There was a Facebook Live interview today, hosted by Pastor Brad Jurkovich at FBC, Bossier City, LA, which explored the candidacy of J.D. Greear. It is a great interview. Topics such as Greear's agenda, Calvinism, politics and the ERLC, and many other things were covered. The interview in it's entirety can be found in both video and audio form on the SBC This Week site. http://www.sbcthisweek.com/qa-sbc-presidential-candidate-j-d-greear/ There have been some of the most bizarre, ridiculous, vicious, and frankly, dishonest criticisms leveled at Dr. Greear. No man is above critique and … [Read more...] about Brad Jurkovich Interviews SBC Presidential Candidate J.D. Greear
I’ve Had Enough: I Am Leaving (the Country)
At 2:30 AM on Friday I will begin a trek to Dioher, Senegal for what I believe is my sixth time since I first traveled there with Bart Barber. God is doing a great work in the Bayot villages that Bart's church labors in and I am hoping that some of that will spill over into the much newer work I am doing in the Essing (or Ehhing) villages to their west. I am planning to return on February 28. I would appreciate your prayers. Frankly, I probably should have put this trip off. I have been in a cluster headache cycle recently. If you know anything about clusters, they dominate your life. I've … [Read more...] about I’ve Had Enough: I Am Leaving (the Country)
BREAKING NEWS: David Platt Has Asked the IMB to Seek a New President
My original post said "Platt resigned." The IMB released claims he has not resigned but simply asked the IMB to begin a search for a new president. I think that is a distinction without a difference. But there are people who get hyper-picky and easily offended about stuff like this, so I am changing this. It's silly. It's a de facto resignation. In one of the most poorly kept secrets in SBC history, David Platt's intent to leave the International Mission Board has been announced today in a conference call with Trustees. Last fall he took the role of preaching pastor at McLean Bible Church, a … [Read more...] about BREAKING NEWS: David Platt Has Asked the IMB to Seek a New President
Can We Not Aim Higher? Charting a Course toward Dallas
I will admit two things at the very start of this post. I am not neutral in the presidential race for the SBC. I hope JD Greear is the next president of the SBC. I have never met Dr. Hemphill. He came to SWBTS after I graduated and I'd not heard much from him until the recent announcement. I have a positive impression of him, believing him to be a good man and good Southern Baptist. But there is a growing tendency in the advocacy of Dr. Hemphill - by his supporters, not by him - that is becoming increasingly troubling. In the announcement in BP about Hemphill's … [Read more...] about Can We Not Aim Higher? Charting a Course toward Dallas

Discuss amongst Yourselves: Should Opposing Brady, Belichick, and the NE Commies Be a Tenet of the BF&M?
My heart says yes. But does the sin of cheering for NE rise to the level of denominational exclusion? Tough issue. What say you? … [Read more...] about Discuss amongst Yourselves: Should Opposing Brady, Belichick, and the NE Commies Be a Tenet of the BF&M?
Ken Hemphill to Be Nominated as SBC President
Baptist Press is reporting that Dr. Ken Hemphill, former president of Southwestern Seminary, will be nominated for the office of president of the SBC. He has served as a pastor and in other denominational roles. The Baptist Press article can be found here. He is the second announced candidate. North Carolina pastor JD Greear's candidacy was announced a few days ago. … [Read more...] about Ken Hemphill to Be Nominated as SBC President
The Church Needs More (and Fewer) Rachael Denhollanders
I follow the women's gymnastics team every four years when the Olympics take place. I don't know if I'd ever heard of Rachael Denhollander until a couple of weeks ago when her victim impact statement against uber-pervert Larry Nassar went viral. Now a 33-year-old lawyer, she spoke powerfully to condemn Nasser's actions in abusing what now totals at least 265 teenage girls while also clearly presenting the gospel. She is credited as being the first person to take a public stand against abuse and was the driving force behind bringing this doctor to justice and ending his reign of terror. We … [Read more...] about The Church Needs More (and Fewer) Rachael Denhollanders
SBC President Steve Gaines Is Doing the Right Thing
In the heat of the moment in St. Louis in 2016, Steve Gaines made a statement about nominating JD Greear at the Dallas convention in 2018. When JD's announcement came a couple of days ago, it was observed that Ken Whitten and not Steve Gaines was going to make the nomination. Some speculated that perhaps Dr. Gaines was reneging on his commitment (whatever that was) or in some way betraying JD Greear. There is an article in the Biblical Recorder (BRnow.org) that explains this. After careful consideration, Gaines and Greear have come to the opinion that it was not a good idea for the sitting … [Read more...] about SBC President Steve Gaines Is Doing the Right Thing
