Why Educate your Children? How Should You Educate your Children? (by Christie Wright)

July 22, 2013 by Guest Blogger

This article was originally posted at "A Mother Far from Home: On Becoming a Supermom." Christie Wright is a teacher and assistant principal at Highland Rim Academy in Cookeville, TN.  She has three children, and is married to a Southern Baptist pastor (Jeff Wright). When my dear friend, Rachel, asked me to be a guest blogger on the topic of “Educating Rescuers” I knew instantly this would be an opportunity to tell a dragon story. I blame J.R.R. Tolkien for my love of dragon tales, but I’ll begin by quoting his good mate, C.S. Lewis, who knew quite well how to tell a dragon tale of his own. … [Read more...] about Why Educate your Children? YOU CAN’T HANDLE THE D! DETROIT AND BANKRUPTCY…..(by Marc Bewley)

July 20, 2013 by Guest Blogger

Since 2008, Marc Bewley has served in the metro Detroit area through the BSCM and NAMB as a Church Planter Catalyst. He blogs at MarcBewley.com. D town, Motor City, Motown, Hockey town and even Day-twah(French pronunciation) are  nicknames of Detroit. It is also a place I love and a place I share God’s Word. Let me be frank, if you’re interested in church planting, you probably can’t or don’t want to handle Detroit. Since 2008, Marc Bewley has served in the metro Detroit area through the BSCM and NAMB as a Church Planter Catalyst. He blogs at MarcBewley.com. Detroit added a new name … [Read more...] about YOU CAN’T HANDLE THE D! DETROIT AND BANKRUPTCY…..(by Marc Bewley)

Who is Guilty of Adam’s Sin? A Centrist Response to Adam Harwood, Part 3 of 3 (by Ken Hamrick)

July 16, 2013 by Guest Blogger

Dr. Harwood rightly advises, We don’t want to build a theological system on a single text. Also, we want to avoid eisegesis (reading our theological pre-commitments into the text). So, we’ll broaden the investigation by examining the inherited sinful nature view through the lenses of biblical theology, systematic theology, and historical theology. I would caution that neither do we want to build a theological system on a single, narrow question, such as whether or not God holds each man guilty for Adam’s sin. Unfortunately, this seems to be what he is doing. Broadening the investigation … [Read more...] about Who is Guilty of Adam’s Sin? A Centrist Response to Adam Harwood, Part 3 of 3 (by Ken Hamrick)

How Disney & India Taught Me That I Was Wrong About Our Need For Institutions – Part One (by Alan Cross)

July 15, 2013 by Guest Blogger

Well, at least partially wrong. Or, perhaps I have taken good things a bit too far without thinking of the whole picture the way I should. Yeah. That sounds better than just saying "I was wrong." Perhaps I am now just better seasoned and wiser because I know more about how much I didn't understand before and can now apply good truth in a better way. Yeah, I like that better. This has been an interesting summer for us so far. We went to Disney World in June and then to the beach in Florida to hang out with friends last week. This week, we are having Vacation Bible School at our church and I … [Read more...] about How Disney & India Taught Me That I Was Wrong About Our Need For Institutions – Part One (by Alan Cross)

Who Is Guilty if Adam’s Sin? A Centrist Response to Adam Harwood, Part 2 (by Ken Hamrick)

July 12, 2013 by Guest Blogger

By dismissing as insignificant the Augustinian principle of a spiritual participation of all men in Adam’s sin, Dr. Harwood (with agreement of both Calvinists and Traditionalists) discards that which offers the most hope for bringing Southern Baptists closer together (and closer to the Biblical truth) on this issue. Currently, the standard Calvinist position is that all are born under the condemnation of the imputed sin of Adam, and the only alternative they see is a denial of the union of the race in Adam. As well, the Traditionalists position is to deny imputed guilt by denying the union in … [Read more...] about Who Is Guilty if Adam’s Sin? Who is Guilty of Adam’s Sin? A Centrist Response to Adam Harwood, Part 1 (by Ken Hamrick)

July 10, 2013 by Guest Blogger

Ken blogs at SBC Open Forum. Adam Harwood spoke at the 2013 John 3:16 Conference, and the paper he presented there is available on the conference e-book at SBC Today. Like Dr. Harwood, I deny that anyone is born condemned for Adam’s sin; but unlike Dr. Harwood, I find in Scripture such a real union of mankind in Adam as to justify the inheriting of all the temporal penalties for Adam’s sin, including the spiritual death and depravity that all are born into. Dr. Harwood identifies as a Traditionalist, and is mainly arguing against Calvinists. But as a Baptist centrist, I propose that there are … [Read more...] about Who is Guilty of Adam’s Sin? A Biblical Basis for Speaking in Tongues in Private (by Wm Dwight McKissic)

July 9, 2013 by Guest Blogger

The primary purpose for addressing this topic is to answer the question: Is there a biblical basis for a Kingdom citizen to pray in tongues in private? The late Dr. Manuel L. Scott, Sr., said, “There is an orthodoxy within him that would not permit the sermonic broadcasting of an idea that the Bible would not back.” Not only do I share Dr. Scott’s orthodoxy regarding sermons, but I believe that this orthodoxy extends to worship practices—including tongues—publicly or privately. If the Bible does not back the practice of speaking in tongues, then no believer—period—should speak in tongues at … [Read more...] about A Biblical Basis for Speaking in Tongues in Private (by Wm Dwight McKissic)

Christ In You, the Hope of Glory (by Ken Hamrick)

July 7, 2013 by Guest Blogger

Ken Hamrick blogs at SBC Open Forum.  The Church long ago embraced the idea that what happens within substantial reality is not necessary to how God views a man. As this idea gradually worked its way into Christian theology, God’s focus (as perceived) was quietly removed from the lives of men. The importance of how a man lives in reality was replaced with the importance of how God chooses to see him. By a simple prayer of faith, the way that God chooses to see the man could be changed from wrath to redemption, merely by the way that the man chooses to see God. The all-consuming faith lived … [Read more...] about Christ In You, the Hope of Glory (by Ken Hamrick)

Reflections and Ruminations on the SBC and Her Future – Part II (by Wm. Dwight McKissic, Sr.)

July 5, 2013 by Guest Blogger

REFLECTIONS AND RUMINATIONS ON THE SBC AND HER FUTURE BY WM. DWIGHT MCKISSIC, SR.   PART II (PART I) WHAT THE SBC IS DOING RIGHT AND HER SINGLE GREATEST NEED? Nathan Finn referred to the vital statistics health decline of the SBC as a “Free-fall.” Because Dr. Finn is not just a casual observer, but a critical thinker, historian, and seminary professor regarding SBC life and history—I found his description, “Free-fall,” fascinating. When I prodded him to give an analysis and antidote of the “free-fall,” he gently pushed back and said that the critique and construct relative to the … [Read more...] about Reflections and Ruminations on the SBC and Her Future – Part II (by Wm. Protecting the Principles of Religious Freedom (By: Ron F. Hale)

June 28, 2013 by Guest Blogger

I’m hearing our president and other important national leaders frame our religious freedoms by using the term “freedom of worship.” That phrase is restrictive and narrow. Our First Amendment ensures us of this: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” Those who have an agenda to rewrite history will push to privatize our Faith so that our rights will only be … [Read more...] about Protecting the Principles of Religious Freedom (By: Ron F.
