Reflections on the Impending Apocalypse

May 21, 2011 by Dave Miller

The day has arrived in which Harold Camping will be shown to be a prophet of God or revealed as the false prophet most of us think he is.  I just did a short sermon at our Upward Soccer end-of-season celebration and I joked a little about it.  And some of you read the post I put up here two weeks ago today about this. But now, I'm sick of it.  I'm tired of hearing about Harold Camping and I'm tired of joking about it.  Most of all, I am tired of the cause this has given the scoffers to scoff.  So, here are my thoughts about this thing right now. 1)  I don't believe Harold Camping.  He … [Read more...] about Reflections on the Impending Apocalypse

Emir Caner, Acts29, and The Problem With Public Christian Debate (by Aaron Davis)

May 20, 2011 by Guest Blogger

Editor's Note:  I read the offending tweet at Justin Taylor's blog a couple of days ago.  I'm not much into Twitter so I've not gotten involved in this issue.  But Micah Fries recommended this post to me, from Aaron Davis, who blogs at "Renewed Mess."  I thought it was powerful, direct and redemptive.  So, here it is.  Thank you, Aaron, for allowing us to share this. It began with a tweet. A short, sarcastic tweet that went something like this: The military found a stockpile of pornography in Osama Bin Laden’s compound. I didn’t know Muslims had their own Acts 29 network. The tweeter … [Read more...] about Emir Caner, Acts29, and The Problem With Public Christian Debate (by Aaron Davis)

Have You Misplaced Your Mind?

May 19, 2011 by Anthony Russo

It’s been a busy few weeks for me.  I have one last final exam at my current school before moving to Louisville, KY in a few weeks to transfer to Southern (Baptist Theological Seminary).  I’ve been wheeling-and-dealing on Craigslist like Donald Trump with better hair, placing ads selling furniture, motorcycle gear, and other stuff we’re not taking with us.  I’ve also been evaluating moving company estimates, which are a fascinating studying in reducing everything you hold dear to total weight and cubic footage.  Right now my life’s possessions are as precious as 3,500lbs in 650cu.ft., and some … [Read more...] about Have You Misplaced Your Mind?

Successful Christian Education

May 19, 2011 by Dan

So I want to jump on the band wagon and talk Christian Education.  I don't want to talk venue (home school, Christian School, Military School, Boarding School, Public School), I want to talk some principles.  The nuts and bolts of Christian Education that parents and teachers can use.  Let me give you a little background, I'm an education guy.  I studied education in my undergrad, have a Masters in Ed. leadership and most of my work, passion and heart revolves around the area of Education.  I plan to pursue my EdD or PhD in this area, and have already worked through some of my ideas of a … [Read more...] about Successful Christian Education

Can a 2x Adulterer Be Elected President?

May 19, 2011 by Howell Scott

Originally published at From Law to Grace on May 12, 2012. NO WAY!!!  If conservatives want to see Barack Obama become a one-term President, they will not rally behind former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.  Nominating Mr. Gingrich would all but ensure the re-election of one of the weakest Presidents in our nation's history.  Now, let me tell you what I really think about Newt Gingrich's decision to seek the Republican nomination for President of the United States. Mr. Gingrich may have been the brilliant politician and tactician behind the Contract for America which led to the Republican … [Read more...] about Can a 2x Adulterer Be Elected President?

Snot Rockets are Normal East of Eden

May 18, 2011 by Mike Leake

We’ve all had a booger moment.  Let me explain. A booger moment is that moment when you realize that people weren’t laughing at your jokes they were laughing at the snot rocket projecting out of your nose.  Or it’s that moment when you realize that the students that you were preaching to were not uncharacteristically focused on the message because you had really good content.  No, they were focused because your pants were unzipped. I remember one particular occasion in High School when I was talking (that’s what the kids these days call flirting) to a girl that I liked as I was … [Read more...] about Snot Rockets are Normal East of Eden

I Was a Public School Brat (a non-horror story)

May 18, 2011 by Mike Bergman

If not for my public education, I would not be a pastor. There—how’s that for an opening line?  I didn’t have time to get involved in the discussion, but in a recent post on church planting where the author recommended public schooling your (read: a church planter’s) children, a lively discussion ensued in the comment stream.  This is certainly something about which people have strong opinions.  I have personally been in the midst of all of that discussion.  I don’t have children of my own (yet), but I was raised going to public schools, went to public universities, and spent two years as … [Read more...] about I Was a Public School Brat (a non-horror story)

The Biggest Problem is THEM

May 17, 2011 by Dave Miller

I spend an inordinate amount of my time writing blog posts, reading them, administrating this site and commenting.  I have formed an opinion about Southern Baptists that I would like to share with you.  I believe I have identified the real problem, the biggest problem in the SBC. First, two observations: 1)  Southern Baptists (at least the blogging kind) are often kinda angry people.  I observe blogging and I am simply amazed at the anger that comes through.  From all sides at all sides. 2)  Just about everyone considers themselves the victim of the other side.  Calvinists are being … [Read more...] about The Biggest Problem is THEM
