The SBC Executive Committee voted back in February to form a study task force to “review the past and present activities” of the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission (ERLC).
It was reported at the time that the task force would report back to the Executive Committee by September. The EC met today virtually. Not a word was mentioned about the ERLC study task force.
The abbreviated meeting was held online due to safety concerns related to the pandemic. EC Chairman Rolland Slade said that he hopes to have a full meeting in February. He said, “We all know that there are a number of other issues that need our attention before we come to Nashville in 2021. Prayerfully we will have the opportunity to meet and discuss them in February.”
It would have been nice to have at least a brief update on the progress of the task force with a promise of a fuller report in February. Instead, we’re left to continue wondering what is happening behind closed doors. Unfortunately, the current EC has done precious little to instill confidence in the minds of Southern Baptists.
When there’s no news it probably means bad news but with the erlc many of us have known that for some time . Hopefully they’ll find a better way to spend the money of many SBCers

Would have watched spoke of the EC meeting if I didn’t have more important things to do. How much of the meeting was held in executive session?
Great to see the level of grace that SBC voices contributors give in light of the pandemic that has shut down every area of our country since March…or am I reading the spirit of this article wrong?
Maybe I am being over-generous in my reading of this but I don’t see any lack of grace in raising this issue. The EC clearly had enough concerns that they formed this task force and there were indications that members of the EC had received input and concerns prior to the task force formation. Some EC members (one in particular) are certainly being incredibly vocal and ungracious on other platforms about the ERLC activities and their opinion of Dr. Moore. I think the blog post here is just raising the question of why there has not been even a preliminary… Read more »
I don’t know. Its not overly concerning to me that no report was given given the circumstances of 2020 – I think there were several committees and subcommittees that have postponed disciussions and reports.
Maybe they should have just said that and perhaps avoided Adam’s ire. 😉
