I saw a link to this today and thought that it was an amazing asset for bloggers. It is a listing of graphic insults from Martin Luther's writings. I do not know who compiled this list, but this is a great boon for us. Instead of making up our own insults, we can just generate one from Luther himself! Here is the link: The Lutheran Insulter This does tell us that the kind of interaction we often bemoan in blogging is not new at all! Here are a few choice entries: You are like mouse-dropping in the pepper. You are worthy only to be mocked by the words of error. You do … [Read more...] about A Great Help for Bloggers, from Martin Luther
Divorce, Remarriage and Ministry: What is a “Husband of One Wife?”
NOTE: I have just released a book which compiles (and edits and expands) these posts. It is called "Disqualified? What the Bible Says about Divorce, Remarriage and Ministry." It is available on Amazon.com. The Kindle version will be released in the next couple of days - not sure what the hold-up is there. This book reviews the biblical evidence on divorce and remarriage, beginning with the cornerstone in the Old Testament - the twin principles of God's intent of marriage as a lifelong covenant between a man and a woman and the understanding of the brokenness caused by sin. It then lays the … [Read more...] about Divorce, Remarriage and Ministry: What is a “Husband of One Wife?”

You Make the Call: Proof We Should Adopt “GCB”?
Do you believe in signs? Just as we are getting ready to head to NOLA for the SBC, at which the "Great Commission Baptist" moniker will be on the docket, an amazing event has taken place. ABC has cancelled that piece of putrid filth known as "GCB", or "Good Christian Belles" or whatever it used to be! Could this be a sign from above, a sort of imprimatur on the name-change? After all, several people argued that the presence of the GCB show should prevent us from using Great Commission Baptists as our moniker. So, is this not a clear message that we should adopt the name? Am I … [Read more...] about You Make the Call: Proof We Should Adopt “GCB”?
The “Ask Jesus into Your Heart” Debate
It is raging. I've been travelling so much and only keeping up with blogging by phone, but I've seen the Steve Gaines video all over the internet. Bart Barber has posted the two videos I copied below and gave an interesting analysis of the topic, comparing the Sinner's Prayer to a wedding vow - both can be either a real commitment or just the recitation of empty words. I thought this might be a good Sunday discussion here at Voices. So, here are two divergent youtube videos - one by David Platt and one by Steve Gaines. Now, here is Steve Gaines. Here's my two … [Read more...] about The “Ask Jesus into Your Heart” Debate
Blogs I Like; Blogs I…Well…Not So Much!
There are blogs I love and other blogs I don't really like. Maybe you care about my opinions, perhaps you don't. But I spent a lot of time on the road recently. Blogging is way to big a part of my life and takes up way too much of my limited brain capacity, so I spent some time ruminating on what I liked and disliked about blogs. So, here's what I came up with. 1) I love blogs that have variety and interest; I don't like narrow-focus blogs. I'm not a big fan of blogging crusades - it gets old real quick. I am amazed at the ability of some people to chew the same meat forever. When a … [Read more...] about Blogs I Like; Blogs I…Well…Not So Much!
Understanding Antinomy: A Key to Peace in the Calvinism Debate?
The Bible is an interesting book. It is one story authored over thousands of years that tells us the history of redemption by God in Christ. It is the wisdom and guidance of God, a love story for sinful human beings; inspired, infallible and inerrant. The Bible is all of that. And it is also, at times, very confusing. Admit it. There are a lot of passages I just don't understand. There are things God does that boggle my senses and truths taught in the Bible that blow my mind. And to cap it all off, there are verses that seem to line up on both sides of most issues. You know it's … [Read more...] about Understanding Antinomy: A Key to Peace in the Calvinism Debate?

Why “Great Commission Baptists” Matters to Me
The end draweth nigh. Well, I don't know about that end, but the end of the discussion on whether we should accept the recommendation of the task force to adopt the unofficial moniker "Great Commission Baptists" to be used by Southern Baptists. We've hashed and rehashed it and then rehashed it again. We've had no shortage of articles published here (mostly against the proposal) and we've discussed it from just about every angle. But now we are about 6 weeks out from the convention and the time is coming to stop talking and start voting. Bart Barber had an article last week that spelled … [Read more...] about Why “Great Commission Baptists” Matters to Me
