SBC Voices is Changing Its Name
After much contemplation and conspiration with a man typically known only by his initials, a hostile takeover of SBC Voices is being effected at this moment and the blog will hereafter be known not as SBC Voices but as SEC Voices. This change will result in a few visible differences around here: #1. No more space wasted on nonsense like the New York Yankees. #2. All contributors will be expected to change their avatars to represent mascots declaring their allegiance to appropriate organizations. #3. No more discussing Joel Osteen unless he moves from Houston to College … [Read more...] about SBC Voices is Changing Its Name
Bryant Wright Appoints New Task Force on Task Forces
Since Bryant Wright appointed the Task Force to study the name change last fall, the Baptist world has been abuzz, not only discussing the name-change idea itself, but also dissecting the details and debating the advisability of the appointment of the task force. Being sensitive to the criticisms of the criticizers who criticized him critically, he has announced a proactive response. He has notified the Executive Committee of the SBC that he has appointed a Blue Ribbon Task Force to study the advisability of presidential appointments of task forces. The task force will be asked to pay … [Read more...] about Bryant Wright Appoints New Task Force on Task Forces
My Wife Hit Frank Page
For the record, every word I am about to share is true! Because of the date today, some might think this is an April Fool's blog post. (I hear there are blogs that take April Fool's Day way too seriously and run a series of silly posts! I find that offensive, but to each his own.) This is not an April Fool's post. A week ago, Frank Page was in our church for an evangelism rally - the best evangelism rally I've ever been to. He was insightful, funny, poignant and practical. Then, afterwards, my wife slugged him! Well, maybe not slugged... but she definitely hit him as I watched in … [Read more...] about My Wife Hit Frank Page
Ed Stetzer/LifeWay: Shocking New Research on Calvinism
Ed Stetzer, the mega-genius behind LifeWay's research wing, has made a convention altering discovery about how to identify Calvinists in the SBC. A few years ago, the anti-Calvinist contingent of Tennessee was circulating a lengthy questionnaire designed to smoke out the hidden Calvinists among us. It was way too complicated, allowing some Calvinists to use the confusion to slip in surreptitiously. According to Stetzer's new research, there is a much simpler way to distinguish the soteriological camps. It all boils down to one thing. Facial hair. Young SBC Calvinists wear … [Read more...] about Ed Stetzer/LifeWay: Shocking New Research on Calvinism
Important Announcement about SBC NOLA 2012
SBC Voices has been notified by the ruling elites that preregistration for the SBC Annual Meeting is breaking all records. Concerned that there might be unity issues as well as overcrowding the elites have issued a papal bull dictating the following schedule changes. The main sessions of the convention will be at the Morial Convention Center down on the river. But for the discussion of the Executive Committee name-change proposal, special accomodations have been made. Those who support the name-change proposition will meet, as planned, at the Morial Convention Center for that session. … [Read more...] about Important Announcement about SBC NOLA 2012
New Moderation Rules at SBC Voices
I came across a story last week about banned words that NYC won't allow to be used on their standardized tests anymore and that gave me an idea and Dave said it was OK to run with this. We have all talked about it and we have come up with a list of banned words that shouldn't be used anymore here at SBC Voices in order to help maintain civility in blogging and commenting. I tried to come up with the appropriate number of words to ban. Carlin said that there are 7 words you can't say, but I am pretty sure there are more than that. NYC has a list of 50, but that seems a bit excessive. In a … [Read more...] about New Moderation Rules at SBC Voices
Acts 29 has Teamed with the Boston Red Sox to Destroy America
The Empire of Evil has arisen again. Acts 29 is known by loyal Southern Baptists to be the root of all evil - subversive Calvinists trying to undermine Baptist history and tradition. Then, you have the Boston Red Sox. Red is the color of fire - the Lake of Fire. We know who the REAL general manager of the Boston Red Sox is! Hint: he carries a pitchfork and has a bifurcated tail. I have secret information that Acts 29 and the Devil Sox of Boston have teamed up to form a new network of evil, called the "Boston Acts 29 Red Sox Network." I have a secret document delineating their … [Read more...] about Acts 29 has Teamed with the Boston Red Sox to Destroy America
How to Leave a GREAT Comment
I've got to admit it, I'm sick of the whole thing. I'm sick of moderating comments and the blowback that comes with it. In the last couple of weeks, I've been reevaluating my own blogging experience and I've worked with the contributors here to hammer out a commenting philosophy and some guidelines. It is safe to say that our policies and my moderation decisions have not been well-received by all, especially those whose comments I felt needed to be deleted. Evidently, people don't like that much. Who knew? I've received no end of advice on these new policies - both solicited and … [Read more...] about How to Leave a GREAT Comment
