Calling For Feeds

July 14, 2008 by Tony Kummer

I've worked through the feed recovery process, and I have about 95% of the feeds back into the aggregations pages. The final 5% would require a lot of backtracking and mining old emails, which I most likely will never get around to doing. So, I need your help. As always, you can send me information about blogs that should be included in SBC Voices. My goal is to include as many different "SBC Voices" as possible. Here is the information that I need: blog URL name of blogger state of blogger SBC church any other categories that I tag including: denominational employees, ministers, … [Read more...] about Calling For Feeds

SBC Indy 2008 Is History … At least for me

June 11, 2008 by Tony Kummer

I'm back from the convention, partially because of church tonight and partially because it was a very discouraging experience for me. My 1st Convention Experience I won't air my criticisms here, at least not until I've had more time to pray. But I am freshly convicted of the priority of godliness, humility and no-spin-truth-telling in my own life. I think the best summation of what I observed at the convention was written by Dr. Donal Whitney. On his website is an article titled THE ALMOST INEVITABLE RUIN OF EVERY MINISTER . . . AND HOW TO AVOID IT. This afternoon I printed this article … [Read more...] about SBC Indy 2008 Is History … At least for me

SBC Indy Down 1,300 Messengers Over 4 Years

June 11, 2008 by Tony Kummer

What story does these numbers tell? I was curious about the difference between the 2004 SBC Indy and the 2008 SBC Indy. Here are the best numbers I could find, you write the story. 2004 - "about 8,500" via 2004 BP News story 2008 - "7,196" via 2008 BP News Blog So, there were roughly 1,304 fewer messengers in the same city, only four years later. That's around a 15% drop in attendance. Any theories? … [Read more...] about SBC Indy Down 1,300 Messengers Over 4 Years

Poll: Who do you support for SBC President?

May 23, 2008 by Tony Kummer

With the convention only weeks away, I thought it would be fun to see who the you support for president of the convention. Take the poll below. [poll=11] FYI: The poll tracks IP addresses to prevent multiple votes. So, the above numbers represent unique internet connection points. I'll share more data after the polls is closed, but these are accurate numbers. For more information on the nominees, visit SBC Today. Interview with Dr. Frank Cox Interview with Pastor Wiley Drake Interview with Pastor Johnny Hunt Interview with Pastor Les Puryear Interview with Dr. Bill … [Read more...] about Poll: Who do you support for SBC President?

SBC Voices Breakout

May 23, 2008 by Tony Kummer

I see something of a breakout coming for this site over the next 40 days. So, I wanted to give a brief update for everyone who is tracking us by RSS feed. We're now following 352+ blog feeds and news sources from Southern Baptists. These are all searchable (or should be) in the right sidebar. It's a custom search engine from Google that allows me to pick which websites to include. I've added several non-blogs to the index also, so it is becoming a very good tool for SBC search. Site traffic has tripled in the 9 weeks. I think its related to the convention, but also some word-of-mouth. … [Read more...] about SBC Voices Breakout

Johnny Hunt Presidential Bid Reaction

May 6, 2008 by Tony Kummer

The little rumors from yesterday are now official and Johnny Hunt will be nominated for convention president next month at the Southern Baptist Convention Annual meeting. Here are what some SBC Voices are saying. On Johnny Hunt and the SBC Presidency: Nathan Finn offers his detailed break down of the pros and cons of Hunt's candidacy along with an endorsement. This is the most in-depth discussion yet. Dr. Finn seems to have considered all the angles. Johnny Hunt to be SBC presidential nominee: This is the official Baptist press story. They give some good biographical information on … [Read more...] about Johnny Hunt Presidential Bid Reaction

Baptist Buzz & Baptist Fizzle: Blogging About The 2007 ACP Results

April 28, 2008 by Tony Kummer

I've been watching with great interest the last week as the Southern Baptist blogosphere has been processing the news about the decline in SBC membership. This event has confirmed to me the value of SBC Voices. So, here are what the voices of the Southern Baptist Convention were saying: The Official Baptist Press Story Ed Stetzer’s Take From Inside LifeWay Tom Ascol was one of the first to respond Bart Barber breaks down Ed Stetzer's analysis As does Timmy Brister when he calls for Repentance and Reorientation: SBC in Decline Wes Kenney quotes the comments of Dr. Malcolm … [Read more...] about Baptist Buzz & Baptist Fizzle: Blogging About The 2007 ACP Results

Wit and Wisdom of Pastor Joe Brumbelow

April 28, 2008 by Tony Kummer

During the Blog Madness here at SBC Voice, David Brumbelow offered three copies of his book The Wit and Wisdom of Pastor Joe Brumbelow. One went to the winner, another to second place, and a final to me. I've really enjoyed the book and have corresponded briefly with David to thank him for the gift. I've also written a review of the book for my other blog, enjoy. My concluding thoughts: In a world with too many preacher superstars, these stories about an ordinary Texas preacher strike me as wholesome and real. They give me hope that God might still be calling regular guys (like me) to … [Read more...] about Wit and Wisdom of Pastor Joe Brumbelow
