Trevin Wax, a rising voice in the SBC, is a brother in Christ and has been helpful to me as of late as I learn the ropes of potentially publishing a book. Further showing his unselfish character, he was gracious enough to allow me to ask him a few questions about the SBC without hesitation. His blog, Kingdom People, is one of the most read Christian blogs on the internet today and his book, Holy Subversion, has been acclaimed by J.I. Packer, Al Mohler, Ed Stetzer, and Russell Moore. I first interviewed him on my blog and it was a great blessing and I pray that this will be for the SBC … [Read more...] about Interview with Trevin Wax

NASHVILLE, Tenn. Has Morris Chapman Clarified Anything?
On Wednesday July 15th, Executive Committee president Morris Chapman issued a "clarification of intent" for the controversial statements he made during the 2009 Southern Baptist Convention in Louisville, KY. I have read it through several times now, and honestly, all that has been clarified for me is that Morris Chapman still doesn't get it. The first thing that I think Chapman doesn't get is the inappropriateness of his comments. The speech in question was delivered during the Executive Committee report on the Tuesday morning of the convention. This was time allotted for a report on EC … [Read more...] about Has Morris Chapman Clarified Anything?
Calvinism: The New Racism in the SBC?
Coming out of last week's meeting in Louisville I feel more optimistic about the future of our convention than I did this time last year. I have a new found respect for Johnny Hunt, a deeper understanding of the decision making process, and reasons to look forward to next years get-together in sunny Orlando. However, as I remarked in my last post, there are still two things that I am thinking about. I will leave the SBC/Acts 29 cooperation aside until a later date, and instead focus on what I find to be is the most perplexing question in Southern Baptist life today: why are there still … [Read more...] about Calvinism: The New Racism in the SBC?
Getting Familiar with SBC Blogging
Since I began blogging in 2006, the voices of SBC bloggers have changed quite a bit. Some faded away, others became stronger. With the addition of SBCVoices, many have been added and more are entering the world of Blogland all the time. That is a good thing for the most part. Folks are getting connected. They are learning about various things within the community of pastors, seminaries, and entities. However, there is a tenuous thread attached to the cyber-optic internet connection, too. Some of the older bloggers (not chronologically by age, but having been blogging early on), … [Read more...] about Getting Familiar with SBC Blogging
SBC: In Need of Direction
There have been numerous posts recently from different SBC personalities about the visions competing for the future of the Southern Baptist Convention. In my opinion, the debate has gotten nasty and defaming to Christ. People have differing opinions on what these visions are and how many different visions exist. There is the Baptist Identity vision, the Founders vision(GCR), the cooperationists vision, and in my opinion there is the common man vision.(there are more visions, but I will leave it at those) I am a common man. I want what is best for the Southern Baptist Convention. I am … [Read more...] about SBC: In Need of Direction

R. Albert Mohler Jr. Answers The Calvinism Criticism
Getting into politics is like inviting the whole world to clean your closet, or at least rummage around a bit. For better or worse, this holds true for Southern Baptist politics. In January they announced R. Albert Mohler Jr. would be nominated for Southern Baptist Convention President at the Annual Southern Baptist Meeting this June in Indianapolis, Indiana. (We need to shorten all those names!) The Anti-Mohlers wasted little time. Within a week, many questions were raised about his character, theology and leadership abilities. Most of this was excepted. What surprised me was the … [Read more...] about R. Albert Mohler Jr. Answers The Calvinism Criticism
