The unique candidacy of Randy Adams

June 14, 2021 by William Thornton

We’ve had candidates who said they would reform the SBC but never one that specified exactly what and who needs reforming – naming names and calling out wrongdoing. Randy Adams is unique in that fashion.

Randy Adams will come in last in the first ballot but get more than a token few votes. I like a lot of his ideas on openness and transparency and have written several articles on him here and, rather than make a lot of new links, offer one piece with many links:

So I https://sbcvoices.com/so-i-watched-an-hour-of-randy-adams-live-last-night/

watched an hour of Randy Adams las night

In a different year, I could easily vote for a disruptor who wasn’t afraid of naming names and criticizing actions that ought to be condemned in the SBC. Our usual protocol is to reward bad behavior and just move on. As it’s put, “We don’t want to hurt missions,” as if we’re paralyzed from cleaning out the worst people and practices because such would “hurt missions.” No one can claim we aren’t wickedly schizophrenic in our Grand Old Convention.

With Adams (and now even Dave Miller) I call for publishing CEO compensation annually along the lines of public corporations and IRS Form 990 for charities.

NAMB is a favorite target of Adams but they put nine thousand people in a meeting last night. Church planting is growing, solid, supported widely. Adams and others would like to go back to namb shoveling a lot of cash to bureaucrats to build buildings, hire friends, give sinecures etc. Witness one state’s use of $8 million in namb dollars with a net increase of churches in single digits. We’ve done it that way for generations. I am for trying something different. Besides, the worst of the SBC seems to be a small group of vicious namb critics. Bad company, Randy.

Give Adams credit for a laser focus on his issue of transparency, complete with humorous examples of back room deals that ought to make us cuss, not laugh.

This year Adams = Mr. No Chance but I for one would like to see him more. He can campaign without looking like he swallowed a bowl of persimmons. The guy smiles a lot. We could use that.

I’ll be around this afternoon and tomorrow, on an authentic Mission from God. I’ll tell you about it after it’s done.

Don’t do stupid stuff or I’ll write about it here. Need more server space for that I suspect.
