J.D. Greear’s Powerful Message to the SBC Executive Committee

February 23, 2021 by Brent Hobbs

Last night SBC President J.D. Greear brought this message to the Executive Committee meeting in Nashville. It's well worth watching in its entirety, but here are a few key excerpts in case you don't have time for the full message. More coverage is available at Baptist Press. Key moments: 3:40 Greear said he had no desire to see us change our doctrine or change our mission. "We are not, at our core, a political activism group. We love our country, but God has not called us to save America; he’s called us to build the church and spread the gospel."   5:30 The change we do … [Read more...] about J.D. A Letter from Dr. Jamie Dew to the NOBTS Faculty

December 24, 2020 by Guest Blogger

We received this letter from a friend of the NOBTS community. It was addressed to the faculty of NOBTS which was circulated around noon yesterday. After receiving the letter we contacted Dr. Dew for permission to post it here. Upon our request and our encouragement to him that this is an important statement which we believe could be a healing salve in the midst of our family strife he gave us permission to do so. Dear NOBTS & Leavell College Faculty, Greetings and Merry Christmas to you all. I hope that you are having a restful break and that you are enjoying your time with family and … [Read more...] about A Letter from Dr. Jamie Dew to the NOBTS Faculty

The Sufficiency of Scripture and Resolution 9

December 16, 2020 by Mike Leake

There is a phrase which I've seen tossed around lately in all our talks about critical-race theory and other issues of social justice. The phrase is even one which has become a hallmark of the relatively newly launched Conservative Baptist Network (CBN) You can see the phrase in their Twitter tag-line: “Sufficiency. The Bible, alone.” That precious doctrine which is being propelled to the front line of battle is the doctrine of the sufficiency of Scripture. But I do not believe that phrase or the doctrine is being properly represented. The Second London Baptist Confession of Faith explains … [Read more...] about The Sufficiency of Scripture and Resolution 9

From Boys to Men: My Response to the SBC Seminary Presidents’ CRT Statement

December 14, 2020 by Dwight McKissic

“When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put aside childish things.” (I Corinthians 13:11 CSB) I am often asked the question, why do I remain in the Southern Baptist Convention? A recent joint statement on race made by the six seminary presidents of the SBC has brought that question back into discussion once again. The crux of the seminary presidents’ statement is as follows: In light of current conversations in the Southern Baptist Convention, we stand together on historic Southern Baptist condemnations of racism in … [Read more...] about From Boys to Men: My Response to the SBC Seminary Presidents’ CRT Statement

On Rescinding Resolutions

December 8, 2020 by Jay Adkins

I’m seeing a strange suggestion being floated around social media of late and it concerns me. Most recently in the form of a tweet from the Conservative Baptist Network. On December 3rd 2020 someone from the organization posted… The post states, in part, “Furthermore, we look forward expectantly to the presidents’ cooperation with us in rescinding Resolution 9…” I believe the suggestion of rescinding any resolution is a misguided one with significant challenges and unfortunate consequences. Likely well meaning, but concerning nonetheless. For those who have expressed concern … [Read more...] about On Rescinding Resolutions

Pray for #SBC2020

March 4, 2020 by Mike Bergman

Over the past few years, I have been challenged in my own life to "pray the Scriptures" more for people and situations, and also just for worshipful prayer. God's word is a breath of life for our souls as God speaks to us, so why not use it to shape and fashion or prayers back to God. (BTW, side note: D.A. Carson has a good study on this topic called Praying with Paul and Don Whitney has an excellent, and short, book called Praying the Bible.) Although #SBC2020 is still several months away, there has been a lot going on in recent days concerning it, and sadly, that includes a lot of … [Read more...] about Pray for #SBC2020

David Uth releases new statement from Pastors’ Conference responding to Executive Committee

February 20, 2020 by Brent Hobbs

Statement from Dr. David Uth regarding SBCPC 2020 February 19, 2020 Available at sbcpc.net. Direct link. On Tuesday, February 18, I learned that the Southern Baptist Convention Executive Committee voted to disallow the use of the 2020 SBC venue at the Orange County Convention Center for the 2020 Pastors’ Conference unless we adjust the program of the Pastors Conference to meet the approval of the Executive Committee officers. The action issued a deadline of February 24 for me to decide if we are going to submit an amended program. Yesterday, in separate phone calls I informed J.D. … [Read more...] about David Uth releases new statement from Pastors’ Conference responding to Executive Committee
