Have you ever found yourself in a quandary? That’s where I am right now. I have for a long time thought highly of Dr. Russell Moore, the president of the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention. I first came to know of Dr. Moore during my master’s work at Southern Seminary where served as the Dean of Theology during some of my time there. I’ve listened to and read much of what he has produced over the years. I believe that he is a great man of God who has done and is doing much good for the cause of Christ and the SBC. When he became the president of the … [Read more...] about Russell Moore Went Too Far

If This Were the End of the Republican Party, Could That Be a Good Thing?
Is the Republican Party dead? Those who say so are overreaching. The Republican Party still dominates the landscape at the level of the several states. Thirty-one governors are Republican, compared to eighteen Democrats and one Independent. A whopping sixty-eight out of ninety-eight partisan state legislative chambers (remember, most states have two, a senate and a house) are Republican, with Republicans controlling both the governor's mansion and the capitol in twenty-three states. In state government, Republicans have never been stronger. So, of course, the GOP is not dead. But that … [Read more...] about If This Were the End of the Republican Party, Could That Be a Good Thing?
I’m Legally Separated – Looking for Something New
Originally published on "Dave Miller Daily." Okay, that title was total clickbait - I admit it. I am happily married. Well, a better description might be "exhaustedly married." We married off our daughter on Saturday, now all 4 of our kids are married. All four kids, their spouses, and all 5 grandkids (plus the Virginia ham in the oven) were in Springfield, Ohio, for the weekend and "Bapa" and "Nani" are still recovering. There's nothing legal about my separation. I don't even know how to officially leave the Republican party. Is there a paper somewhere that I'm supposed to … [Read more...] about I’m Legally Separated – Looking for Something New
So You’re Telling Me, There’s a Chance!
I've been voting since Jimmy Carter defeated Gerald Ford in 1976 (yeah, I'm old). This is my eleventh presidential cycle and it was to be my tie-breaker. I've voted for the winner 5 times and for the loser 5 times. Though I'm told that I'm the most liberal Southern Baptist since Jimmy Carter, I've been voting GOP every time and was hoping this election, reacting to the unpopularity of Obama, might vault me back above .500 for my lifetime. Then, politics got crazy - just plain weird. Most of the weirdness can be attributed to the entrance into the Republican race of the … [Read more...] about So You’re Telling Me, There’s a Chance!
April Fools!
If you haven't seen the clip of the Warriors pranking their backup center or Angels players embarrassing one if their pitchers, then maybe we should have gone ahead with some of the plans we discussed to publish some April Fools Day articles. We batted around some titles but ended up rejecting them all. Here are some of the rejected titles, which we considered too absurd to be believed: 1. Socialist leading Dem race; Bernie gaining ground. 2. Serial adulterer, misogynist, racially provocative Donald Trump leads race for GOP nomination. 3. Wiley Drake running for president..of the USA 3. … [Read more...] about April Fools!
A Simple Super-Tuesday Proposal for Protecting America from an Unthinkable Nightmare
The idea of having to choose between the dishonest Hillary Clinton and the despicable Donald Trump is a nightmare that causes reasonable people great despair. I have to admit that I did not believe it would come to this. I over-estimated the wisdom of the GOP, believing that Trump's character would be exposed and his antics would wear thin and eventually his popularity would fade. But his supporters shrug off inconvenient truth and go on supporting him in spite of his character, his beliefs, his behavior, and his positions on issues. He makes statements supporting Planned Parenthood and … [Read more...] about A Simple Super-Tuesday Proposal for Protecting America from an Unthinkable Nightmare
Gazing in My Crystal Ball: BOLD Predictions for 2016
At my personal site (www.davemillerdaily.com) I made some predictions about the Iowa caucuses. With the exception of predicting that Rand Paul would do well, I was surprised at their accuracy. So, I thought I'd put myself out on a limb one more time and try my hand at gazing into the proverbial crystal ball. Here are some of the things I see coming. If I am right, I will crow loudly about my accuracy. If I turn out to be wrong, this post might disappear and you will never hear any more about it! There will be a mixture of sports, politics, denominational, and other random predictions … [Read more...] about Gazing in My Crystal Ball: BOLD Predictions for 2016
The greatest show on earth
That would be American presidential campaigns and elections. There are others that have more drama, complete with blood in the streets, but short of that ours is quite a spectacle. And, at long last, we actually had some voting (caucusing in Iowa, to be accurate, complete with random winners selected by the tossing of coins). Here's where we are, according to one irreverent retired reverend: Donald Trump: How exactly are my evangelical friends, not a few from here, feeling about the frontrunner whose campaign included a public pronouncement that "they can go **** themselves"? What would … [Read more...] about The greatest show on earth
“The Greatest Nation on Earth?” A Balanced Look at American Exceptionalism
Originally published at "Dave Miller Daily." I had an interesting conversation several years ago with a friend who served as a missionary in an Asian nation. The people in that nation love their homeland but do not have the kind of passionate patriotic loyalty to it that Americans, and especially conservative Americans, have for our homeland. "Americans have a level of patriotism, nationalism, and national pride that other nations just don't have." It is crucially important to many people, a point of doctrine, a test of political orthodoxy, to believe and proclaim that America is not only … [Read more...] about “The Greatest Nation on Earth?” A Balanced Look at American Exceptionalism
Initial Thoughts on a Night at the Iowa Caucuses
Originally published at Dave Miller Daily I just got home from the caucuses (well, from getting some gas for my snowblower and such - we are supposed to get a foot to foot and a half of snow tomorrow) and I have some initial thoughts. 1. When I drove in to the community center, my heart sank. Last time, we parked in the main area and walked in. This time, I dropped my wife off and drove to Kansas City, where I parked and walked to the door. There was a long line to enter and sign in. Many of the people in the line were filling out the registration cards, to switch their registration to … [Read more...] about Initial Thoughts on a Night at the Iowa Caucuses
